Pattaya water shortages likely avoided by diversions, gov’t says

Pattaya-News-1-N-Jan-17-03-Gov-fixes-eas

PATTAYA:--Government agencies and utilities are diverting water and rerouting pipes to bring enough water to the Pattaya area that should prevent previously anticipated water shortages this summer.

Alongkorn Ponlaboot, advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and Taveesak Thanadechopol, deputy director-general of the Irrigation Department, met with farmers and industry leaders at Irrigation Office 9 in Sriracha Jan. 17 to discuss the impending drought and efforts to minimize its effect.

Taveesak outlined the current crisis in the East, saying seven reservoirs that normally feed water to Pattaya, Chonburi and Rayong are at just 42 percent of their 671-million-cubic-meter capacity. The 55 Central reservoirs are at 57 percent capacity while rivers are running at 30-50 percent water levels.

Still, water levels are not uniform and some areas have more water in lakes than others. Thus the Irrigation Department, the Provincial Waterworks Authority and private companies like East Water Co. have taken steps to divert water from low- to high-demand regions.

But not 100 % sure, they will be very lucky if they

have enough water to last until the rains return,

and what about Songkran will that be canceled,

or will coloured powders only be allowed to be

thrown.

They are trucking it in to our place ( Na-Jomtien)...various reasons given  being a burst water main, the management company owes 9 million in water fees !  and  the reservoir is dry.

How long before the 9 million must be paid, or no more water?

Water shortage?  In Pattaya, which has the longest Songkran festival in all Thailand?  It floods three times a week in the rainy season!

Not last year it didn't, part of the problem. I only got stuck in town once last year.

This guy does know that they have just started building a gazillion condos up Soi Khao Noi near the Chilled right ? but I doubt the planning department speaks to the water department - apart from a donation now and then

In all the talk of climate change I still think the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about is increasing overpopulation, whilst the world's resources are diminishing.

Current population 8 billion, projected by 2050 10 billion people.

Economic growth needs population growth.

Goverment proclamations, edicts, warnings and forcasts are much like the weather; under the control of no earthly power, subject to unannounced changes and unpredictable to any degree of certainty.

That is closer to 4.2% of capacity, not 42% as stated in the Article.

As for that 9M debt in Water that is Trucked in ?

It does not take long to rack up that amount if the Companies that are charging for it have the price at 200 Baht Per Unit ( 1 Cubic Metre ). And that is a real possibility.

Residents are due for a massive shock for their Water bills soon

My biggest concern is breweries might have to truck in water in the future, and then we will all be paying 150 baht a beer.  ????

Water in our village, Chokchai 5 on Soi Khao Noi, has not run during the day for the past few days, perhaps a week. My wife checked and has been told they are only allowing the water on during the night due to a short supply.

Suggest you all get a bigger water tank.
