Immigration police in Phetchabun praised help from social media after a Pakistani man was arrested for conning shopkeepers and department store staff.

Mohammad A., 31, had been caught on widely shared video paying for goods then asking for his 1,000 baht note back.

Then using fluent English he would fluster staff and convince them he had in fact not received his money back and needed change.

He did this multiple times over several provinces in the north east.

He was arrested by immigration at the end of last week and was quickly in court where he was fined and given a suspended prison term.

He was held by immigration ahead of being deported and blacklisted. He was declared a danger to society.

During his interrogation - he needed a Pakistani interpreter as his fluent English had deserted him - he said that his mother had just died and produced a picture on his phone to "prove" it.

This impressed the interpreter who sympathised though police seemed less than convinced.

Pol Maj Phuwadon Phumee of Petchabun immigration thanked onliners who had quickly helped track down the Pakistani fraudster.

77kaoded described him as a "nasty khaek" in their headline. It is a generally derogatory term for people from the Indian sub-continent.
