What are your plans for Australia Day?

Bunnings is a large Hardware chain and very successful. On Saturday morning they allow a charity or club (different charity or sports club each week)to operate a sausage sizzle, close to there front doors, most people just can't walk past, you know what the smell of a good snagger and fried onions is like, not a bad start to the day for $2.50 each.

Not in the UK they are not. They bought the Homebase chain rebranded to Bunnings and failed miserably. They had to sell the operation for £1. The stores have since been re named as Homebase.

Well i'm in Thailand so not much of a celebration for Australia day, but I can tell you where I would like to be. In Perth Western Australia. I'd be in one of two places depending on the weather, the first would be in Kings Park, a beautiful botanical garden overlooking the magnificent Swan River, the place would be packed with families who had taken picnics and of course the Esky (no self respecting Aussie goes anywhere without the Esky), we would have a birds eye view of the fireworks and the flyover, just magical, If it was stinking hot, I would be in the revolving restaraunt in the city, also with a birds eye view of the festivities.

Aussies are proud of their country and rightly so, it can be a hard and rugged place but it's like no other.

And the temperature in Perth will be 35 on Australia day and 37 on Monday public holiday.

That just proves the point the Poms don't know how to run a business :clap2:

Do they pay your pension, can you skeedadle back to Oz for free medical if you are crook?

They are giving back what i gave to them through amortization.  I already bought/invested in those services, they are not giving me anything extra.  So no, i do not care, all socialist countries operate the same, why do you think your taxes are so high, you think these things are free - NOT!  Don't be naive.

It's the same scam condo developers use: guaranteed X% rental return over X time.  NOT!  Developers hook you to believe they are giving free money; instead developers are jacking up the price then they give back your inflated purchase price portion calling it guaranteed rental income.  Uh huh! Sure.  May I ask: do you believe in santa?

Look, at the end of the day, it's your life, it does NOT matter to me what you believe in.  Live your life as you see fit.  You have to be accept it, it's your choice.  Stand by what you believe.

Nope!  I have not and do not intend to.  Stay in Asia.  Thailand is becoming too expensive and complicated for long term.  Love thailand, but not the BS.

Nonsense. Australia didn't become a country until 1901. Doubt there were many of the convicts still around by then.

There were more soldiers than convicts originally so it might be fairer to say we were founded on law and order.

The last convict ship arrived in January 1868, so if a 20 year old got transported then it's highly likely that there were ????

By 1935, January 26 was known as Australia Day in all states except New South Wales, where it was still called Anniversary Day. From 1946, January 26 was called Australia Day in all states and territories, and since 1994, the Australia Day public holiday has been on January 26 throughout the country.

The First DAY of Mourning was held in 1938, before the day was recognised by all states. 56 years before it became a public holiday

So not a new "trend"

Information overload.

Did you watch it?

Yeah, sure did, don't like rap, spent part of my childhood growing up with aboriginal kids, nothing against them, don't see the point in changing the day, its not going to change anything, and the 26th was not the first day, month, year we stole their land and murdered them.

Oh, one day to early, looks like the same again for Sunday.

Happy days.

The day "Westerners" stole the Aborigines land and murdered them.  Cheers mate.

Do you think that Australia was the only colony that decimated native populations. Maybe take a look at your own country first.

They are not totally talentless, but close.  Perhaps a new lead singer.

They sure are using a lot of white man tech to complain about white man calendar.   All gifts that would not exist had the hunter/gatherer/tribal existence continued.  Guessing these guys don't see the irony.

History of the world shows us that no one owns the land.  The current occupants of any land are mere custodians, which can be changed if a stronger power has the will to do so.  Still the case today.

The "celebration" of the invasion of Australia by the British and the begining of the white washed history of the country.

Mate Australia was settled. If it was truly invaded there would be no one left to have this conversation with.

Perhaps some reading of the diaries (Dark Emu to begin with) or any peer reviewed anthropological studies of the "settlers"" may assit you lack of factual knowledge.
