Sheryl Posted January 23, 2020 Share Posted January 23, 2020 With fibroids management depends on the woman's age, how severe the symptoms are, and most importantly, whether she plans to have a baby in future. Fibroids are benign and no treatment is needed unless the symptoms seriously affect quality of life. Fibroids will also usually spontaneously resolve after menopause, so if the woman is nearing menopause age and she can tolerate it, simply waiting it out is usually advised. If far from menopause and/or symptoms are intolerable, the simplest and most definitive treament is a simple hystetectomy (removing uterus but not ovaries). This can be done at any hospital and if your wife is Thai can be done free or nominal cost via the government system. At a private hospital anywhere from around 80k to 250k depending on hospital and where in the country you are (Bangkok hospitals costing more). Where it gets complicated is if the woman plans on having a baby in future. There is another procedure called a myomectomy where only the fibrouds are removed. It is more difficult to do, and the fibroids often recur. If this is desired, it is best done by an infertility specialist with specific experience in it. Cost same or more than hysterectomy. No wish for more children. The pain she have is mostly extremely hard menstruation with a lot of pain and bleeding. She got diagnosed at (probably not allowed to mention name here but its connected to one of the university faculties) a semi privat clinic connected to that hospital. Doctor recommend open surgery going in through the stomach because he found two of this fibroids but as she have read herself up on the prosedyre she have got sceptic to the relatively long recovery time estimated due to her work which is in a multinational company in a good position related to health and that requires her to be in physically good shape and she wants to find the best hospital suitable for laparoscopy surgery but are careful with here finances and do not want to pay large sums for an operation in a five star hospital if possible to have the operation to the same quality at a government or partially private hospital. She have of course the social security and an insurance with AIG but not included outpatient prosedyres. Any hospital/doctor recommendations are very welcomed. Felt. Recovery is faster than open approach but still need a day or two in hospital and probably out from work 1-2 weeks. It can be difficult to do laparoscopic hystetectomy if the fibroids are very large and it will cost about twice as much. Sometimes even when they try to do laparoscopic surgery they have to switch to open approach during the surgery. But certainly she can consult a surgeon specializing in laparoacopic hysterectomy to discuss. Where in Thailand are you located and what hospital is her SS cover at? In which case best to come up to Thonburi either siriraj Hospital or Thonburi Hospital (private hospital right bear it, many of the same doctors). I'll send suggested doctor names in a bit. My wife have decided to delay the surgery due to the ongoing Covid -19 situation but a friend of here had laparoscopic surgery some 3 weeks ago with the same diagnose at Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital in Bangkok and had a relatively quick recovery and is already back at work.
