webfact
Coronavirus: Thailand is top destination for travellers from Wuhan ‘Bangkok is clearly the major international destination for traffic to and from Wuhan with on average around 545 arrivals each day’ – John Grant, OAG Simon Calder, Travel Correspondent As concern grows about the spread of Wuhan Coronavirus, analysis of flight schedules has shown that the Thai capital, Bangkok, is the top international destination for travellers from the central Chinese city. At least nine people have died in the outbreak of the respiratory virus, with a further 440 cases reported. Travellers from China have been diagnosed with Wuhan Coronavirus in Japan, South Korea, Thailand and the US. As Chinese New Year on 25 January approaches, record numbers of travellers are expected in the region. John Grant of the schedule analysts, OAG, has looked at the number of seats on flights departing from Wuhan in the first three months of 2020. He said: “Nearly 90 per cent of all capacity offered is to other cities in China. Popular Post seajae
Wuhan has now been closed down with all transport shut off after several deaths over night, maybe Thailand needs to stop travelers at the border to do health checks etc as well to avoid this from becoming a major problem in Thailand but that would ruin their tourist numbers. Just maybe they need to place the populations health and well being above making money and getting tourists but I highly doubt it 11 2

Yes, there is a quarantaine imposed by now over the province of Wuhan, yet it seems that many people from there were already travelling by the time the quarantaine was established. Popular Post KhunBENQ
Domestic travel from Wuhan seems undisturbed? At least this one cancelled: An AirAsia flight to Phuket did fly, arrived 3:40 AM. Another late night flight today to Phuket also cancelled. Whatever spin TAT want to put on it, and whatever the Chinese want to say the fact is that the World Health Organisation are deeply involved in it and not from arms length. On the ground. There's representatives at every press conference. It was the WHO who said close the city, and the Chinese closed the city, despite the fact that it's CNY tomorrow. How you can manage to get TAT in the mix I don't know but if that's your axe, feel free to grind it. Popular Post Ramen087
This is a very serious situation. 547 cases have been confirmed. In China alone! It takes time to check that many people. In the meantime, those people have been interacting with the neighbors, acquaintances, business colleagues etc. They’ve been taking planes, buses, autos, taxis...and touching a lot of things that multiple people handle. Like a steering wheel, condiments in restaurants, suitcase handles, tray tables and arm rests, and touch screens... if the virus has mutated, you can double the exponential rate of growth... wear a mask, wash your hands, Carry hand sanitizers, and avoid crowds, if you can. This is no joke. Dismissal of initial warnings turn small outbreaks into epidemics, and epidemics into pandemics. 5

Not really, Common cold kills approx 70,000 with cases a year globally, flu variations many more... biggest problem is its Chinese new year and what that means for travel. A town 7 km from where the virus was discovered in Wuhan had a state run banquet with 100,000 people eating off of the same dishes. This was 2 days after 49 cases were confirmed in Wuhan. Bet that helped it along. You can panic if you like. Edited January 23, 2020 by englishoak 1
thequietman
Come on TAT, get your collective fingers out. This is a perfect opportunity to increase tourist arrivals. You can panic if you like. I’m not panicking. I’m simply taking prudent measures to guard my own health. I don’t understand your reference to the common cold. The jury is out as to the mortality rate of this new virus. It could be worse than SARS, or even MERS. The common cold doesn’t have nearly the mortality rate of either of those virus, so your reference to the common cold isn’t appropriate, at least to me. I also get a flu shot regularly. I take my health seriously, and I follow guidelines in situations like the one the world is experiencing now. It is definitely a serious situation; an entire city has been locked down. Wake up.

SARS managed to kill less than 800 globally, MERS similar. ZIKA ridiculously few. Sidenote there is a major biolab in Wuhan, opened in 2017 only one of four in China, im sure its just coincidence. Sorry i just dont buy the hype of these new virus outbreaks anymore... In all seriousness If you took your health seriously you wouldnt be in Asia at all, if it turns out to be serious its already out the bag, Chinese new year is coming and the likes of Thailand and closer to ground zero are probably the most dangerous locations to be.. Stay safe and well bud and i mean that sincerely.
