Here are a couple of things (obviously this is about SARS, which is 1 protein different from current Wuhan corona virus, so probably same things apply):

- SARS can survive up to 6 hours in human faeces, up to 4 days in diarrhoea

- SARS showed only minimal reduction when kept in sub-zero temperature (like a fridge)

- SARS could be effectively killed by disinfectants like chlorine bleach, within 5 minutes

- SARS could also be killed by UV light, where 264 nm was especially effective, killing off viruses in seconds

 

As said, although this is for SARS, the strains are near identical so above is probably true for current virus as well.

As for the virus, WHO say there is no need to declare a worldwide emergency yet. But the Chinese are having to lock down some cities at a time when many are traveling for Chinese New Year and potentially bringing the virus with them. Go figure.

 

Of course Thailand currently has a love affair with the Chinese tourist. Never mind, we must have tourist revenue.... and risk dying as a consequence. What price tourism?

You have the option of leaving if you don't feel safe.  They don't have the option of going somewhere else to feed their families.

It is really difficult to judge how bad this is, but it has the ability to get nasty. I have a small hotel and have stopped taking Chinese (or from China) bookings. Have also cancelled Chinese booked in the next month. Not a problem for us as we can easily fill up with non Chinese. I prefer to err on the cautious side and not wait until its too late. I hope this is a wake up call to Thailand when it comes to relying heavily on one market.

Ok, tomorrow I start my day boiling bleach for my coffee and picking up the order a dozen mosquito killers and germ killers to hang up on the wall.

Aircon is set on the max minimum settings and the brown bean jar back on the shelf this has to wait and brown bread on the table.
