Thailand to screen arrivals from China as tally of virus infections hits 14

Its all a bit shock horror. 106 deaths in a week, all in China, is hardly a world epidemic. Less than 2 days carnage on Thai roads.

About every 5 years we get a major panic about another deadly virus and we're all going to die. Ebola, H1N1, bird flu etc.

Philippines stopped giving them visa on arrival. Taiwan stopped issuing all visas to Chinese. Mongolia closed their border with China.

Thailand just started screening everyone.

No they are planning to screen everyone this mornings media claims, so again talk is cheap. When they are DOING it then maybe screening is happening, but all to late.

14, that is the kind of exponential increase indicating that the real number of infections in Thailand should be around 2000 or more now. Screening does not help much as the virus can be transmitted before any symptoms appear. And why in the <deleted> do these Wuhan people travel so much? Stay home you <deleted>!.

the screening is useless as patients can carry and spread virus in the incubation period, which is 14 days. Close the borders for Chinese. Mask are useless too.

How can you say the masks are useless??

If nothing else, they stop you from touching your nose and mouth.

The average person touches their face 4/5 times per minute.

You can argue forever about the size of the virus and how it can bypass the filters but they can be helpful in preventing the spread of the virus

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand announced plans on Tuesday to screen all arrivals from China for symptoms of a deadly virus and confirmed six more infections among such visitors, taking the southeast Asian nation's tally to 14, health officials said.

Should have done that from day one !!!!

Every person infected infects another 2.6. At present, no cases have been reported in the Philippines. ThaiVisa is blocking communications from outside Thailand. Why?

Because of what is splashed all over MSN western news outlets and Rueters this morning. That's why.

How many of you trust them scanning/checking people on arrival? It's the same way they scan you when entering some malls, or when going on the BTS, very loud beeps but they tell you to keep on walking - scanning machine is just for show.

A friend who's never been here asked me why Thailand hasn't done anything to stop the Chinese tourists coming, well it's just a quick equation.

No tourists, no one dies = no profit

Tourists, some people die = profit

Money has more value than people's lives.

Also, just saw a clip on Facebook of Chinese tourists refusing to pay 250 baht for getting their hair washed+cut (females). These are the tourists you need! They come with viruses and no money, only spend money on Chinese tours, Chinese hotels, Chinese restaurants... How much do the locals really make from Chinese?

Yes it’s seems like that now on the surface but factor in what you can’t see which is the underreporting by China and others. Travellers from infected areas are still travelling, hospitals at ground zero already overwhelmed and refusing new patients. If you were in one of these cities you would want to escape by any means without knowing you were already infected. I see this one as the big one and I hope to God I am wrong. If this had kicked off in the US or even HK I may have been less pessimistic but I think history will confirm my theory that this pandemic coming from the middle of China prior to the Chinese Lunar New Year has created the perfect storm to spread this virus everywhere and make it the Pandemic of this century. If that happens there is no way hospitals everywhere will cope and you will simply have to take your chances on self recovery. “Brace yourself Shiela”

An airborne virus like Cov can enter your body via the eyes. Hence, preventing you from touching nose and mouth is useless.

I addition studies have shown that the coronavirus can survive up to 4 days on plastics, glass and similar surfaces. If you wear mask and touch say an escalator that has a smattering of coronavirus, then rub your eyes, guess what will happen.

So I am guessing he said that masks are useless because in certain circumstances they are, well, useless.

"Our target is we will be able to detect all carriers entering Thailand and we will apply necessary measures as the situation develops.

It was not Bundooman who wrote this;
It is a Thai minister who has still not understood that the only way to do this is to ban flights and vehicles wishing to enter Thailand.

Every day thousands of vehicles cross the bridges of Friendship on the Mekong;
Thai and lao trucks that supply the construction sites of dams made by the Chinese.
The conductors are necessarily in contact with the Chinese site managers and even with the Chinese workers.

When they return to Thailand, they may very well be infected without even knowing it (incubation of the disease from 1 to 14 days)

so thailand is now on the same exponential path as china: 1, 2, 5, 8, 14, ??

same virus so same result?

Logically the outbreak has already started here, but the PM is handling this personally and has it 100% under control.

So no worries ????

It's been clearly shown that the virus can be transmitted during the incubation phase when there are no symptoms, so what on earth is the point of checking body temperatures? The only effective way of keeping the virus out is to keep the Chinese out, full stop!
