One of two giraffes that escaped from a truck carrying them along Highway 304 in Chachoengsao was found dead on Thursday (January 30) in a pond not far from the road.

It was one of 68 giraffes newly imported from Africa to be displayed in Thai zoos.

These two animals were being transported on Tuesday when they leapt from the truck, briefly causing a traffic jam. One was soon recaptured.

The body of the other was extracted from the pond and sent for autopsy.

Officials had already expressed concern that the escaped giraffe might fall into a deep ditch and be unable to climb out.

strange concern.

are giraffes more susceptible to falling into deep ditches than cows, dogs, chickens, elephants, beemer smart-car drivers or just ordinary random humans?

Geeze, they can't even organise a competent animal transporter.

Animal escapes from a truck.

Find a suitable vehicle and driver to transport these animals.

I hope the next story we read won't be that of giraffe head decapitation due to driving under low bridge

You've seen Hangover 3 as well.

They did an autopsy and found it had 7kg of plastic bags from 7-11 in its stomach!

The other paper, that has no name here, suggested that the door of the 'container' was incorrectly fastened and instead of 'leaping out' the giraffes simply exited the slow moving vehicle. More disturbingly it included a piece that suggested that before dying in the ditch the dead giraffe had been chased by someone on a motorcycle.

The other one was darted then recaptured and is now at the zoo.

Yes, on the news was a video of someone on a mc chasing, or he could have been trying to get ahead of the giraffe also, it down the road, the poor animal was certainly spooked by this !!
