Popular Post geriatrickid
One must be careful when glorifying public figures. This was best demonstrated by the adulation given to "Mother Theresa" who in reality was not the nicest of people. No doubt that Pavena has done good (and I hope that she continues to do so), and her foundation is also one of the only organizations Thai women and the oppressed can turn to, but no one person is perfect and no one organization faultless. Charitable groups characterized by integrity and good governance ensure that their cost structures and financial statements are public and current. This is done thorough posting their financial information at their websites. An organization which does not have an audited financial declaration leaves itself open to questions. 10
URMySunshine
Without great bloodshed there will be no great change in Thailand. The Thai people don't want great bloodshed so there will be no great change alas. The mob who control it have made that abundantly clear.

You said that the girl was trafficked by a foreigner in Pattaya. This is totally untrue. She was trafficked by a Thai woman. Thai women travel around Issan recruiting girls to work in bars, making wild promises of fortunes to be made and farang husbands to be had. It's trafficking and is done exclusively by Thai women. It's the same for Thai girls who are trafficked to other countries. Here is a story told by an English man who used to run a bar in Pattaya. It's the story of a young Thai girl who finds herself working as a prostitute in England. It's a long jurney but at every stage she is exclusively trafficked by Thai women. A fascinating true story but in 17 parts. If you really want to know how Thai women are trafficked, how, by whom and why, watch the video. On a personal note Yinn, I was very happy when you joined this forum and expected you to give us a Thai perspective of life in Thailand. I also expected you to learn from farangs on the difficulties we have living here and coming here as tourists. You have done none of this. You don't want to hear about our problems in Thailand and seem to only paint a chocolate box picture of Thailand where everything is perfect and it's people are saints. Thai rak Thai. A long way from the truth. To you, farangs are inferior beings who Thailand would be better off without. Be careful what you wish for. 10 2

Yes, we can all see that. What I do not see are the Charity's financial statements. Please tell us where to find them. Where is the board of directors etc? Here is an example of a reputable charity; https://www.aspca.org/about-us It has links to its directors, executives, financial statements governance etc. I appreciate that things are done differently in thailand. However, some organizations at least have an annual report and release a statement of expenses. For example - https://pub.soidog.org/end-of-year-report-2019/

And the Thai people should all think it wonderful. Khun yinn- this is a very general statement by you in which you are implying that we as foreigners are here for prostitution. Nothing could be further from the truth......but first my thoughts on the Paveena Foundation. I am well aware who Khun Paveena is and have known of her work from the beginning in 1988 when she used her notoriety to establish a foundation to help women and children, especially those subject to forced prostitution and sex trafficing. I have followed her foundation's work for years and know of many successes. She is a hero to many Thai and foreigners alike. I can assure in 1971 when I first entered Thailand- I was very naive and knew nothing about prostitution or that it even existed in Thailand. I actually came for the culture and the fact that Thailand was an exotic destination for a young guy born in a rural city in mid America. I loved the country immediately; the friendly people; the ease of living; the smells of the market and the smiles everywhere. I knew at that time, I would come back-marry a Thai girl and eventuallt live in Thailand forever. There are so many good things about Thailand and Thai people that I have learned and I swear each day still I learn something new. However, through the years-and yes- for me- it is 50 years- I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. Do you seriously believe if I was single I would pick up a 21 year old service girl; walk hand in hand down the street and believe I had found true love? The overt sex trade has developed over the decades for a variety of reasons, some being trapped in poverty; a lack of government assistance; corruption and exploitation Of course mass tourism bringing temporary visitors with a higher wealth base has fuelled a seeming lust for 'easy' money. Except , many have found that the money is not so easy and not much fun. Throw in commercialism; greed; drugs and a lack of hope and you have what we see now. Whose ot blame? You know the truth. I used to think Thailand was the true Shangrila which was the mysthical place in the World wjere everything is perfect. Once i learned to speak Thai and understand the ins and outs of the real Thailand, I realized it was not perfect. I am not going to list all the problems Thailand has; what caused them; who is really responsible and how to solve them. Only the Thai people can determine this. While I learned that not all Thai people are perfect, you need to try and understand us also. While some people come for the easy access to 'service girls'; many of us do not like it or feel comfortable with what we see . IMO it has nothning to do with prostitution in itself. As long as both parties agree to the relationship and do not exploit each other- it is a product of just that. I don't like to see Thai women and farang men kissing on the street or grabbing each other in public- it's not the Thai way. In 50 years in Thailand- I can say I have never done it. However, when I walk in the mall with my 20 year old daughter who is a univeresity student- I don't want to be prejudged by others ; If I walk down the street with my Thai spouse of 20 years- i dont want to be treated like a pariah. I don't expect to be treated any better when visiting an establishment nor any worse than a Thai person. The key is tolerance- we need to understeand each other 4

Mainly women who have been trafficked to work in establishments frequented by Thai men and trafficked by Thai women. Believe what you want about women working in bars in Pattaya, I can assure you that you know very little. When have I made a racist remark? You really will stoop to anything to forward your agenda.
