webfact
Video: When your time is up.... monk and rider crushed under truck at level crossing in Suphanburi Horrific CCTV footage from a level crossing in Suphanburi province in central Thailand showed the moment that a truck trailer laden with animal feed overturned crushing two Thai men yesterday. The deceased were travelling on a motorcycle and sidecar. They were 64 year old Montha and Phra Manop, 56, a monk at the nearby temple of Wat Nong Wan Priang. The pair were returning to the temple on Route 321 after the monk completed his alms round. The driver of the truck that had Phitsanulok plates was Chainarong, 29, who was taken to hospital. Thung Khok police and rescue services employed two cranes to lift the overturned truck. The rescue services were tasked with the grisly job of removing the victims that suffered horrendous injuries. Sanook reported that the truck had tried to avoid a collision after another truck in front braked suddenly. But the driver lost control resulting in the death of the two innocent victims. The media said that this is an accident blackspot. Popular Post Denim
Tragic. You can be out there doing nothing wrong when fate comes along and rubs you out. That truck must clearly have been going too fast for the road conditions and the driver must have been closer than the safe distance or else he must not have been paying attention to the road in front. 11
Popular Post seajae
again an idiot truck drivers going too fast and not watching the road in front of them, naturally trucks and cars slow down when going over a railway crossing but this idiot was doing the typical thing and ignoring everything around him, probably too busy on his phone to see the trucks in front slowing down, you could see their brake lights 17

Popular Post trainman34014
Watch the first two trucks and you will see the second one is 'Tailgating' his mate and only just stops in time; he and the following truck which overturned are both driving way too fast and with nowhere near enough braking distance between them. The concept of 'Safe braking Distance' is something unheard of and unthought of in this country. I've mentioned it on several occasions along with 'Speed and distance' to Thai friends and Wife's relatives and only ever get blank looks, they just don't 'get it' at all ! 30la
And as always, the driver of the damned truck is never at fault, it is clear that he was going too fast and without the safety distance! In prison with this murderer!
Popular Post Orton Rd
An accident black spot? the whole country is an accident black spot. Went out last night into our quiet road at 9.30, few cars about. But 50 yards in it's cops, lights and ambulances, again. Car and bike as usual body on the road, last time saw an accident here it was ours when a bike hit us at almost the same spot. That truck must clearly have been going too fast for the road conditions and the driver must have been closer than the safe distance or else he must not have been paying attention to the road in front. Nothing to do with fate IMHO. If you look at the video you will clearly see a stop sign, 1st up to the right you will see a car slow down to stop, but as it's stopping, it's almost tailgated by the car behind him who swerves into the left lane and continues on. Then you will see the 1st truck brake, there is a dip in the road at the stop sign, so, 1st truck brakes, 2nd truck brakes harder as he is tailgating his mate (same trucks), not expecting the 1st truck to stop, which it didn't, 3rd truck is going way too fast to stop, my opinion is he is probably not paying attention, e.g. maybe texting, or talking on his mobile, (shouldn't be too hard to check), or fatigued, and when he realises he is about to go up the trucks rear, he panics and two innocent people are crushed, that said, the sidecar should not have been where it was, however this is Thailand and for those with sidecars, motorbikes, it is a lane for them, although I think it would be illegal to ride in, then you have lack of police presence/enforcement, etc, etc. Perhaps a BIG white mark across both sides of the road (known blackspot) would help, along with two signs, one with slow down on it and the other sign with the word dip ahead, about 100 metres before of the stop sign could be displayed for future reference, yes I know, they would have to read them, that said, no driver actually stops at the stop sign, maybe they should change that to a give way sign ? The truck driver should be charged with manslaughter and do time, no excuse, a double bogie is a lethal weapon and should be driven by someone capable, but we know jail time won't happen, maybe karma will come about, but that's sort of thinking that fate exists ? Burma Bill
I wonder if the next train service would be the "Ghost Train". RIP both victims.

Also, when I back off to allow a safe distance in front of me, someone will overtake/undertake me to get into the space I've vacated. There's no way that their minds can compute that I'm doing it for safety reasons and not because I enjoy driving slow.

HaleySabai
The title says so much..."When your time is up"..... is a clue to why so little is done to improve road safety. Thais really do believe in Karma; that things happen for a reason. There is a strong inclination to view life from a meta-physical point of view rather than to try and control its outcomes. Perhaps why things never really change here even though they are changing all the time.
