BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's public health ministry reported seven new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, including three Thais and four Chinese.

The new cases brought the total reported in the country to 32, among the world's highest number of infections outside of China.

"The seven new cases are all in hospital," said Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai, director-general of the Disease Control Department.

One of the Thai cases was part of the group of 138 evacuated from China's coronavirus epicentre of Wuhan on Tuesday, Suwannachai told reporters.

The other two Thais had exposure to tourists, he said.

Among the four Chinese, three are members of the families of previously reported cases, while the other is a tourist from a "risky area" in China, said Suwannachai.

Among the 32 cases Thailand has reported so far, 23 are Chinese while nine are Thais.

As of Saturday, one more patient was allowed to go home, bringing the count of discharges to 10, said Suwannachai.

Twenty-two other patients remain in hospital, he said.

The point is,  you can not stop living to avoid death.   The show must go on.

The bad guys are all going to their deep underground bases.    They will come out when it is over.    Be waiting for them when they emerge.

I'm bunkered up now. Does that make me a bad guy?

I'd bank on getting the bug,  and then do everything you can to get over it as quickly as possible..    There is a pretty good chance you'll muscle through, but some will not. The already sick and the old are probably going to hae a worse time than the rest... No surprise there.

You're right that someone getting it now will have a way easier time than someone getting it once hospitals are full, but the risk of complication and death is not 0 so I would not chance it.

I see a trend with the official case reports, they are very slow and it it's always just enough to not step up in the ranking of most affected countries. With 32 they are still behind Japan and Singapore, you can expect that the next update will put them behind Hong Kong.

What's your hurry? Right now there aren't even any cities in China including Beijing, Shanghai, and Chonqing that look like Wuhan.

That's because China currently has 400million people on lock down and or quarantined. What is Thailand doing to prevent the spread?? Blaming white people for not wearing masks, and that's about it

OK so then when will BKK look like Wuhan?

No idea, but it should be quite easy to see that the way things are going, it's going to be a similar situation. Wuhan has a population of 11 million, Bangkok has 8 million. The outbreak in Wuhan started with 1 person, there is at least 1 infection in Bangkok. Thailand is doing very very little to stop this outbreak, or moreover they are not implementing effective strategies, while letting in potentially infected people daily. How many people are currently walking around Bangkok with the virus without symptoms in the incubation period, passing it onto people? Nobody knows but it is probably in the thousands.. How many people will have the virus without symptoms in 2 weeks? Nobody knows, but again it's going to be a lot.

The numbers still make little sense.

Thailand has 595 people under observation and 32 confirmed cases, a ratio of approximately 18:1.

China has 34,575 confirmed cases, and if the ratio is somewhat accurate, China must have around 622,000 PUI.

Either China doesn't know that PUI number (likely) or Thailand are not being timely and truthful about concerting PUI to confirmed (also likely).

If we had the China PUI approximation, we could calculate the probably ratio that should be converting to confirmed in Thailand. The delay of information, the growing list of PUI and tests yet to be completed...it just feels very dodgy.

The numbers will become clearer over time.

Agreed. I only responded because the question posed was not "IF BKK will ever look like Wuhan" but "How long before BKK looks like Wuhan".

If you check the stats on BNO the number of suspected and confirmed stay always around 50/50 for China. It's hard to compare since they are obviously overwhelmed compared to Thailand.
