Popular Post webfact
Thai security guards: Unlikely heroes of shooting at Korat mall are no "jobsworths" Thai caption: Security guard hero Picture: TNN Many people think the many security guards of Thailand are just people in uniform for show. Some even suggest they sleep on the job and their only purpose is to blow whistles or perhaps tell you where to park. Some see them as nothing more than "jobsworths" - officious individuals who are a hindrance rather than a help. Think again after Korat. Thai mainstream media and online comment is full of praise for the actions of security guards at Terminal 21 in Nakhon Ratchasima at the weekend during the horrific shooting incident in which 30 people died. Manager Online said that "heroes don't need special powers". Indeed, the unarmed security guards at Terminal 21 could have been responsible for saving hundreds of lives. Their courageous actions in very difficult circumstances as gunfire rang out proved vital in ensuring that hundreds of shoppers made it to safety. They didn't go home or desert their posts, said the media, staying throughout the drama until every last person they could help was safe. Picture: Manager Online They were able to utilise their intimate knowledge of the layout of the store to help others. They had performed not just their job but a great service to society, said Manager. TNN also had a story about a specific guard who has been praised for putting his life on the line to help customers. Comments all over social media have praised the security guards who often go unnoticed in Thailand or are criticised when small things go wrong. Thaivisa notes that the job of security guard is poorly paid and many of those in this work are country people working in cities earning money to support their families at home. Many could now be seen in a different, and more favorable light. Popular Post spidermike007
Great news. Many of us do not give Thai men enough credit. I know some who are truly outstanding men. Honest, honorable and hard working. Good on these guys. Hope they call them out by name so we can do what we can to heap praise on them. They deserve our gratitude. Anyone does, who puts their safety on the line under such horrifying circumstances. 45 1
justin case
is just to make people feel better who would risk their life for their low paid job , with no gun ... where I live, they whistle like hell, AS IF CARS WILL / CAN GO FASTER in traffic it hurt my ears, they can see it when I put my hands to cover my ears (hyperacusis) but still they continue 1 1

Popular Post Benmart
Those with little regard for the ordinary workers who make life possible, are themselves much more ordinary and irrelevant. Kudos to those that do the mundane and invisible labors.

For instance when backing into a parking space, a series of short "fweets" on the whistle means to keep backing up. When you hear a single longer "fweet," it means stop. You don't seem to get it. I quoted this: "Some even suggest they sleep on the job" and the topic is about ceurity guards in general, not about Korat shooting. Have you never seen a sleeping security guard outside a hotel or condo? 2

Popular Post CGW
Seems to me that it is very PC to praise people doing their jobs and call them "heroes" in the era we are in, "heroes" a word that is over used IMO. 2 1
