Did some room shopping on Booking dot com for inbound friends. Same old (before the exodus) prices as before. Calling the property did the trick after a bit of gentle reminding that they were at low occupancy.

Yes. Call direct and negotiate. Repeat. Negotiate. Hint: You have the upper hand.

You do know this is an English language forum, don't you? Tried to read it three times and then gave up.

My head is still spinning...

not a lot of difference in prices. Most thai hotels don't understand a hotel is a volume business, most hotel costs are fixed costs. Better to sell 30 rooms at 100 baht then 1 room at 600 baht. And very very few owners give anyone in a hotel the responsibility of negotiating a lower price. I booked on agoda after watching the hotel prices for weeks. didn't change. I expect the girls will not lower prices also. Very few of them understand the saying - one bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

What about shirtless Chinese?

They are polite enough to just pull their shirt up halfway to only show their distended stomachs.

I booked two different hotels for Pattaya a couple of weeks ago. But still the same prices. Agoda tells me to hurry up as there is a high demand.

I personally would not book a picnic through Agoda, robbing barstewards.
