Last year i went by land to dannok in january and april. 4 days each time. Went again in october and refused as they only allow 2 xings per calendar year. I understand why they did it that way but it wasnt put in place for people like me that do short visits, its for people that stay in thailand. IO only seems to have discretion to refuse, not to allow. I havent been back since, now do my holiday time to vietnam and philippines 4 times a year. Sad. Spoilt by border running guys trying to scam the system. I can see more and more loopholes being closed, to the detriment of the genuine and by the book tourists and expats. Your ethnicity, or perhaps long term record of time in Thailand? Did you even bother reading the OP? He didn't have a "long term record of time in Thailand," this was his second visit in 8 years. 1

I do not agree. Once, going into my home country I was asked by the immigration officer what I did for a living. My response was: " I do not believe it is any of your business". WRONG answer. I was escorted to a private room and put through the wringer for over two hours. I was also told that the next step would be body cavity searches if I didn't suddenly revise my attitude. I became very contrite.

That was 9 years ago, as has been said things have changed. Years ago you could stay in Thailand indefinately using say triple entry visa ( which they don't have anymore ) or visa exempt and do multible border jumps. No longer alowed ! You could even overstay pay 20,000 baht maximum fine and go out turn right back and stay again, no more! Now if your overstay is over 90 days or you are caught you will be banned from entering Thailand for a specific amount of time (1---10 years) There was no ban 9 ---10 years ago just a fine. Rules change----all the time here and IO's sometime make up their own.

Did you verify that he did not get his valid visa lying, cheating, or other nefarious ways? Consulates and Embassies ........ duh! I've never had the opportunity to lie to anyone, I fill out the VISA application form, give them a photocopy of my kid's birth certificate, they say $80, which I hand over, and they give me a receipt to collect the VISA the next day. Have you ever applied for a VISA in any SEA country? Are you under the impression they interview the applicants? They can ask the same questions 100x, no need to vary from those answers. I've got a Non-O VISA to visit my son, they even write his name on it now. Q: Why are you coming to Thailand? A: to visit my son. And that's the only answer to any question they ask me. Edited February 14, 2020 by BritManToo

So the problem is what, exactly? Up to you, if going so far as calling the girlfriend is OK? They did not question him they bullied him if you cannot see the difference!???? Edited 1 hour ago by Tchooptip They clearly thought that they had reason to do that as the other 99.9% of the millions of annual visitors pass through Immigration with no issues at all. This person claims it happened to him on two consecutive occasions! I wonder why? Were you there? How do you know that the tone of the questioning was "bullying"? 1
Popular Post traveller101
It seems to me that quiete a number of OP's are incapable of putting themselves in the shoes of someone who is not as acutely aware about the current state of affairs re unwritten Immigration rules and procedures as they are. I still remember my own rather unpleasant encounter at Phuket airport immigration. Sold my company and a few properties, then entered Thailand visa exempt, stayed for 3 weeks, went on to Switzerland to celebrate Xmas/New Year and entered Thailand again on a second visa exempt on my way back to Australia. I knew about the compulsory ticket out of the country and had enough currency in cash to meet the 20000 Baht requirement. The female IO did not ask me to present either but instead started what felt like an interrogation. Call me naive or an irresponsible uninformed newbie, I at first thought she was joking and obviously my facial expression set her off. For the next 5 minutes she let loose and asked me what I was up to during the days and nights, if I had a girlfriend, why I come to Thailand a second time within 2 weeks etc etc. All the while the queue behind me grew longer and some vented their displeasure loud enough for me to understand. Yes, I got stamped in eventually but the whole experience was very unpleasant and - at least for me at that time - completely uncalled for.

This is a bit like saying that they cannot deny entry unless one of the conditions stipulated in the immigration act for denial is met. Even if true from a legal point of view, they can always just make something up and the applicant would have no recourse (in reality). With that in mind, I find it intriguing that local immigration offices haven't joined the "stay too long" frenzy. If it was an immigration-wide policy, as some on here like to claim without ever providing any proof, that simply would be different.

When he went to Jomtien immigration office to extend it he queued for 5 hours and then everyone who had not been seen was instructed to return the next day. He did as ordered and the next day after queuing for another 2 hours was refused a 30 day extension but was granted just 14 days. His appeals and entreaties fell on deaf ears and it cost him £200 (8,000) baht to change his flight from 30 days time to 14 in order to get back to the UK. This was about 18 months ago, he's not been back since. He used to visit once or twice a year and stay for two or three months each time. It must always be remembered that our trips to the LOS and their duration are dependent on the whims and discretion of the individual immigration official we will be dealing with and are not related to some claptrap we may be told by people at the embassies and consulates. 1

I'm not poor at all and just hate it when they treat me like i'm a criminal...they can check anything on me, fine do it, but after a long flight i just want to get stamped in. "I'm not poor at all and just hate it when they treat me like i'm a criminal." Well whatever you do, don't come to Thailand for retirement or marriage extensions, because if you do, you will soon know what being treated like a criminal feels like. 1 2
