I now have coronavirus

I have type 2 diabetes but well under control and im not obese  only 70kg and 173cm   , one of the medicines i take for diabetes  candesarten is known to give a low level cough,  however   Monday I started coughing really heavy with a lot of watery phlegm , thought i had bronchitus ,, but tuesday felt really weak  and had a fever  and terrible headache ,, went to local hospital Sirikit at sattahip and was seen quickly and tested , temp, heartrate ,  blood taken , sputum sample taken ,by masked nurse and doctor ,, no isolation  area,, they  gave me medication for the cough  and told me to self isolate at home and they would phone me the result , which came  next day  Corona Virus   confirmed ,, My lady was asked to collect some more meds ,, she has had tests  which are negative , I am being monitored   as the biggest worry is Pneumonia ,,apparently thats what is killing most victims , if i have any signs of that I will be sent to a special unit ??????  meanwhile its now 5 days im at home ,, fever has gone , im eating  a little , no headache now but still coughing but not as bad , or as much watery plegm ,,???  I asked the hospital which is closely linked to the local military  do they report Corona virus cases to health dept   ,,  they dont know ?????  there were several other people there mostly thais but one french guy also undergoing tests  with similar symptoms ,i got his phone number   and he says he is clear , one of the Thais a young kid was very ill  with breathing problems and was rushed off to intensive care .

 

I have warned people i know  in case i passed it on .....

I would take that diagnosis with a 'pinch of salt'. If you had contracted the new variant corona virus you would be in enforced isolation right now. You wouldn't be allowed to walk out of the building until you were clear of the virus.

 

You're not in isolation = you don't have this new virus.

I too am amazed that you would not be put in isolation if really positive for Corona. 

 

Especially from a govetnment (military) hospital

Actually I suspect another bug is going around Bangkok, I have had a mild headache and fatigue since early this week. no coughing though. wednesday I came home and passed out for hours.

 

no fever that i know of but some pretty insane dreams.

 

feel much better today, though low grade headache lingers.

Add that to pollution through the roof and chances of COPD and sinusitis are also very high.

im a total hypochondriac when i comes to reading about symptoms on the internet, but chances are so low, im not actually concerned and i have had very similar sinus issues before.

I dont know where i got sick could be anywhere   shops, restaurants , friends?  im only saying what the Doctors have told me ,, they demanded to test my lady and she has also given them a list of people we have seen over last 2 weeks ,,   ,,  Sirikit hospital is the main Government hospital for sattahip ,, they told me to self isolate at home ,, unless my symptoms get worse,,   pneumonia seems the biggest concern , They say they will test me and Lady once my symptoms  go away or 7 days  thats Thursday next week ,

Interesting maybe that is why the numbers they quote (33) are so low they only count those people that are in hospital

I do have a runny nose and a bit of a sore throat though, but all mild and a bit better today than yesterday. Of course it's getting me paranoid but it's probably just a common cold.

i spend alot of time wake boarding which can involve some spectacular crashes and water filled sinuses which sometime results in low grade but lingering sinus infections, this feels much like that.

 

the timing is poor though haha.

   4 cause colds (about 20% of the colds are caused by these)

   1 is MER

   1 is SARS

   and 1 is Covid-19

Doubtful you have covid-19. However your 'self isolation' could well prevent some others with your symptoms clogging up the system for those in real need.

Strange you should say this as about 2 months ago i had a cold,headache and fatigue as well mad dreams ,i woke up and was convinced i had gone back in time(i kid you not) it lasted two to three days then i was fine ,i also go to Queen Sirakit ,but was there in november for my eye tests . doubt it was Corona Virus as nobody had heard of it then .

Actually now that I think of it, there are two sets of tests available - one is newer and will be more specific about whether you have COVID-19 and the other picks up some other possible viruses... (based on the backlog - I am guessing that if the person was tested it would be the more generic test).  As such the test could (I am guessing) pick up other corona viruses as part of it (20% of colds are of that group of viruses) to which they would then have to do a second test (which I am guessing is still massively backlogged based on the PUI numbers) to narrow it to the new virus.  As such he could be sent back home (as mandatory quarantine all the PUI probably is not being done).  In other words, he could be one of the hundreds that is listed as PUI.  Just a thought.

First I would like to express my wishes for A speedy and complete recovery to the OP.  Self isolation for those intelligent and disciplined  enough to do it properly is the best thing, Hospitals , especially Thai hospitals are are disease infested incubators, one wants to spend as little time there as possible. 

 As uncomfortable as your condition might be, only a small percentage  die from it, so at the very least be happy that you got a mild case and once on the other side of it you will have an immunity and not have to worry about it.

To make a different point. 

I have had congenital deformation of the aortic valve , had open heart surgery and had the valve replaced. 

After the surgery everything that happened to me , I was concerned that it was due to the surgery.

 My doctor told me "just because you had heart surgery it does not mean that other thing will stop happening to you" . so just because of the Coronavirus it does not mean that all the other flue and other maladies will go away.

infected cases. that's propably what china tried to do until it 

was too late.

No, I think that he has flu symptoms (similar symptoms) and has not tested confirmed positive so self isolation would be the approach they would likely take.  If you don't self-isolate - you would be in mandatory medical detention then.  They are unlikely going to auto-quarantine everyone with symptoms until they have some confirmation.  The majority would turn out to be normal flu.  The confirmation may be to test positive for COVID-19, or it could be symptoms of a flu and a negative test on the current flu viruses known to be in the wild.

From the reports I've seen a runny nose is not one of the symptoms of Covid-2019.  Fever, cough, difficulty breathing, but no snotty nose.

Difficulty breathing is a later symptom (i.e. after the fever breaks) and if I remember right is the same with SARS in that it is basically your immune system overactive and in the process suffocating you.
