Sukhumvit roadwork to last through October

1372-N3-Feb-11-02-Sukhumvit-resurfacing-

PATTAYA:--Digging and resurfacing of Sukhumvit Road has been tied to an increase in accidents on the busy highway.

Nearby residents and businesses complained that the roadwork at the far southern end of Sukhumvit in Pattaya was begun without notice, lacks adequate lighting to illuminate work areas after dark and has caused accidents.

The 90-million-baht project begun in January will run through October and eventually result in the resurfacing of all of Sukhumvit from Pattaya’s southern to northern border.

During the operation, one lane of traffic is closed, meaning increased congestion will last for several months.

Yes, I was recently coming from East Pattaya to use the Makro  U-turn (to go to Tesco Lotus) and was surprised to have to navigate the road-works to cross to the outside lane of the south bound carriageway.  Had no idea  that these roadworks were in play.

You would think that this would have been planned for after the opening of the by-pass. That would cut down on the traffic flow and likely accident numbers?  Hmmm.

My usual 20 minute journey took over an hour yesterday partly due to a multiple pile-up as irresponsible thick drivers jockeyed for lane positions.  It being weekend, there were no police working.
