A 63 year old sugar cane juice seller suffered nasty injuries to his left foot and knee after a young man stopped to buy his wares but ended up stealing his phone.

Chaiyaphat's daughter went on Facebook to recount what happened to her father who was selling near the Rang Nok Hotel in the area of Sukhumvit Soi 23 in Sattahip, eastern Thailand.

A man stopped on a motorcycle and kept the engine running. He ordered five bottles of juice and asked to borrow the vendor's phone to call his brother.

While Chaiyaphat was sorting out the order he made off with his phone.

The elderly man was not having that. He grabbed the back of the motorcycle and was dragged down the road before the thief threw the phone into undergrowth and escaped.

His daughter asked: What is Thailand coming to?

Police confirmed the incident adding that the thief had tried to exchange 1,000 baht. After this request was turned down he borrowed a Huawei phone and stole it. The victim was dragged at least 20 meters down the road.

Police said the thief was about 19 or 20, was on a Honda Wave and they have a good idea of who is responsible based on analysis of CCTV footage.

Why would he let anyone borrow his phone? Stupid or what.

Because he asked and the guy was a potential customer.

Not as many public call boxes around as there used to be.

Would you be quick to refuse someone?
