How many countries have you worked in ? in fact, have you ever been outside of Thailand (please note Thailand with upper case T) Have you lived for any length of time in another country ? Now to educate you on how the majority of structured governments (I was going to say Western governments, but I think structured is so much better) yes the UK has a health minister with no medical expertise, but what he does have are knowledgeable aides and senior health personnel IE: Chief Medical Officer, these people advise on delicate and important matters, the health minister is an accomplished narrator and takes his cue from his advisers, Thailand on the other hand has a racist and xenophobic health minister who doesn't have a clue and shoots his mouth off and lies at every opportunity.

You seem to put a great deal of faith in your government. That's your personal choice. Here is what I know: People die and the issue is one of how  the illness is recorded/registered. If a person with a pre-existing condition such as kidney disease dies while infected with an indeterminate respiratory illness, the cause of death will be attributed to the kidney disease. Thailand has a vested interest in under reporting or keeping numbers minimal: It needs to protect its tourism revenue. The generals are gambling with the lives of millions.

IMHO, Thailand has intentionally not pursued diagnosis  as a means to avoid reporting the extent of the  epidemic in the country. This is what other health specialists are saying too.

 

Thailand is not alone in this. China has done similar. Canada was misrepresenting the illness too, making the false claim that there was no evidence of human to human transmission. then when the facts were irrefutable, they changed to no evidence of human to human  transmission in the country and then they dropped the claim altogether.  Other countries  are trying to keep the extent of the pandemic contained because they just could not cope otherwise.   

 

Your chart above means nothing. It is someone's creation to reassure the public. No country can really respond to a serious pandemic until there is a vaccine or an effective treatment. It is laughable that countries like the UK and Canada have such a high grade, because we all know that there are  shortages of staff and beds. People are sent home from  their ERs misdiagnosed who then die of  obvious ailments such as cancer or meningitis etc.  the USA fails when it comes to rural   health care for the simple reason that small town USA like small town Australia, Canada, and Thailand  fail: There are not enough health professionals or state of the art hopsitals in those regions.

Thailand's grade is just as much as a joke because it has a minimal capability to manage a respiratory infectious disease. It's hospitals are ward based, not  individual room structured. This is why infections such as c.difficile and gastro kill so many in the Thai hospital system.

yes, I believe that the pandemic is intentionally under reported. You can't report  what is not diagnosed. Chest xrays and temperature scans are not enough. There are regions of Thailand that had significant Chinese visitor traffic and it is impossible that hundreds if not thousands of infected Chinese out of the millions who had entered thailand, did not infect people. If we look at the small number of Europeans who were infected because of their attendance at a  conference or  having stayed in a risk zone,  and if we look at the number of cases in Japan we can see the pattern. Thailand does not have special magic that will protect it while other countries with fewer interactions were infected.

 

The truth will come out eventually. china has gone into lockdown with  brutal quarantines. It is not pleasant and  horrible, but it is working to buy the world some time. Thailand on the other hand effected no control measures and has done next to nothing  in respect to surveillance except to  blame farangs for not wearing cheap ineffective  cotton  masks.

There will be a day of reckoning and the generals cannot hush this  up forever.

In most countries they don't test for coronavirus virus if you get flu symptoms or a pneumonia. The issue not only in Thailand is that if you don't test then there is nothing to find.

 

So, I agree with you there is nothing to lie about. The US, Canada and all of Europe do pretty much the same thing but the difference is that Thailand is the most at risk and has the most to lose. 

 

Japan, Singapore and South Korea started testing all pneumonia cases and they find a lot more cases since then. 

 

Another issue with Thailand is that they started by giving more detailed reports and when they got more cases they removed details from subsequent reports. It looks like they are trying to hide something even if they do not.

 

Singapore on the other hand give detailed reports, a live map and even block visitor from China so they look more transparent and proactive.
