A twist, my Thai relatives thought the maid was dishonest because someone had left 5,000Baht in a pocket but maid never mentioned finding it. They confronted her and she responded that she had found the 5,000 and had left it on the kitchen table.

 

So they set up small cameras in the laundry and kitchen are left 3,000Baht in a pocket. Same evening they checked the camera recording and there was clear video of the Thai wives loudmouth middle aged lady boy brother taking the 3,000Baht from the kitchen table.

 

The Thai husband called ladyboy to the kitchen and confronted him then played the video.

 

But before playing the video the husband told lady boy that 6,000Baht plus 3,000Baht had disappeared.  Ladyboy responded quickly 'mai mai baet parn'. 

 

The husband told him to pack his bag instantly which he did. Husband told ladyboy to leave the yard and walk to the road to get a bus and never return.

 

Husband picked up the bag inside the yard and threw it out on middle of the soi.

 

Never seen again. Family apologized to the maid.

With such a small safe the thief has to carry a heavier load. That's not polite.

The police know who has done this crime. The money is long gone. They should have offered the police a 50K reward for return of the money and property.

So many "business men" in Thailand. Wow. Being such a "business man", the Canadian should know that he can open a foreign currency account and avoid hiding his money under a pillow.

Good luck elsewhere. If they want to move each time they are victims of a theft, then there'll be not many countries left after a couple of years.

Is the opening a foreign currency account that easily done?

Asking as I used to have both but was told I had to decide either THB or STG, but I couldn't have both so I had to close one.

A few years ago we had stuff going missing around the house. Petty cash that was not the amount I remembered and even a beer going missing from the fridge. We bought an alarm clock spycam from Pantip. It was incredible. There were 2 separate thieves, both who we knew very well. One one occasion they even came to steal at the same time and shocked each other, then got into an argument. We confronted them directly, and it stopped. Just shocking the brazen-ness of some people.

For sure his wife blabbed to people that they had that cash in the house. First I can't believe someone would be so stupid to keep it in the house in this day and age but second, how would the thieves know to rob that house and find the cash? 

Either she is in on it or she told one to many people about their stash since most Thai low so women can't keep their mouths shut. 

And it doesn't matter if you are in Thailand, Europe or the US, rarely do police investigate home burglaries if nobody was hurt. It's almost impossible to find the culprits. 

Now he can move with her to Canada and she can later divorce him and rob him again.

Good luck with suing the estate company to get the money back. They will end up spending at least $10,000 on a retainer, and it will take years. And will a judge rule in their favor? Slim chance of that. 

 

Where did they have the money hidden? Was it in a high quality safe, that was bolted to the floor? I would never leave a large amount of money, or valuables in the house, that were not securely locked up, and my neighborhood is super safe. Sounds fairly cavalier to me. And the chances of the same thing (based of their careless behavior) happening in Canada is at least as high as here. Plus, it sounds like an insider job and not the least bit random.

Mmmmm a fool and his money are soon parted.

I knew a chap who told me many moons ago, putting in cctv in or around your house is not worth the 30 - 40 000Baht.

A year later his house was broken into and more than 10 Million Bahts worth of money, jewlery etc was stolen.

Now when I see him, I always mention that 40 thousand Baht instalation.
