Popular Post webfact
Pollution: Abandoning Thailand to seek a better life in Vietnam?! Think again..... Thaivisa has been contacted by a Bangkok resident who is currently working in Hanoi who suggested that the grass was not necessarily greener in Vietnam. Many have said recently that life in Vietnam is much better than Thailand though some dispute this. Our contact who asked not to be named showed how the air quality in Hanoi today ranked as the worst in the entire world. It had a rating on airvisual.com of 230 on their "air quality and pollution city ranking scale". Worst in Thailand and 12th on the list was Chiang Mai with 156. Bangkok rated 16th with 153. Our contact said a tad facetiously: "As all those Thailand expats flock to Vietnam seeking world class living, Hanoi shows the way by being way ahead of Bangkok in the league table." -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2020-02-20 Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking Thailand news and visa info 4

Popular Post Scot123
Term grasping at straws jumped out at me. Friends wh left Thailand in 2006/7 never came back and still rave about how good living there is. Friends who visit them agree and would move there in an instant if they did not have financial/commitments in Thailand. If I could I would move to Vietnam.
Popular Post Ron jeremy
Danang and the central coast of Vietnam CONSISTENTLY have the cleanest air in SEA. DrTuner
Depends on the direction of the wind. Most field fires are in Cambodia so when it comes from east, Thailand gets smoked, when from west, it's cold smoking time in Vietnam. There's no winning. Only hope is the current drought (Forgot about that? Check the reservoirs, many critical) lingers for years so there's nothing left to burn. Popular Post Isaanbiker
The visa situation doesn't seem to be better. The girls do not seem to be better. The weather doesn't seem to be better. In my opinion, those who went to Vietnam, because they were so fed up with all the immigration laws, etc. might not jump in and say that it was a mistake to move to Vietnam after giving up all in Thailand. Think twice before you make such a decision. I'm in no way interested in going to Vietnam. 9

johnray
I always think England smells worse than Bangkok. I remember London being a chemically sharp smell. Bangkok smells of good food and perfume. The villages smell of washing drying and streets overflowing with flowers. We can complain about the drains but in England they have no toilets or the toilets are smashed to pieces and locked. 1

Think twice before you make such a decision. I'm in no way interested in going to Vietnam. If married to a local, VISA is $50 for 5 years, which would be easier for me. Plenty of attractive girls available, haven't tried a LTR with one, they're probably the same. Weather in Vietnam has always been nice, as well as less polluted whenever I've got off the plane from Thailand. Beer is definitely cheaper and cannabis is widely available. I particularly like the beach at Da Nang. My kids are Thai, so I'll probably never get the chance to move there.

yellowboat
Thailand is for the retired and non ambitious. Thai laws are not set up for people with drive. Vietnam is far freer and welcoming. If you want to build a boat in your back yard, nobody cares, unless they like boats. Thai Visa had to cover more events in Cambodia due to the mass exodus after 2014. They are hoping they do not have to do the same thing for Vietnam. Trouble is there are no silly visa issues here yet. The Vietnamese embrace education and are moving quickly to surpass Thailand. At the present pace, they will do what China did. Thailand was ahead of China 25 years ago. It isn't anymore. Without the cha cha government, Vietnam would probably not be this great. Thanks cha cha!

Popular Post gyps
Interesting, I left Chiang Mai in December for a month to Phuket before moving "permanently" to Hoi An, Vietnam. I would never live in Hanoi because of the air pollution and population size so using that as an indicator doesn't make sense to me when searching air quality. If air quality was my sole reason to live somewhere I would be back on Kauai or in the high country of Colorado. Hoi An is quite different in all respects. I actually prefer the quality of life to Change Mai and I loved Chiang Mai. If the visa situation was different in Thailand I would have fled south during the burning season which is costly and a pain in the ass, but I love Thailand! Oh there is plenty to gripe about Thailand if you are a griper type, but I enjoyed my time there very much and will return from time to time. First let me address the most important aspect of Vietnam for me as an American. I have a one year business visa multiple entry no reporting. And for me that is the main reason I chose Vietnam. I know that that doesn't apply to other nationalities, so its a moot point for others. I can give you a few comparisons of why I prefer Hoi An. Better air this time of year. Mostly moderate, but often in the green. Its on the ocean as i prefer it to what some people call mountains in CM. The food is equal to or better and the price is too close to be an issue. The apartment I have although 3,000 baht more is a palace in comparison to my digs in CM. Overall a better deal, but too wide a subject to try and cover. Although I can tell you a huge, three bedroom house furnished is $300 US here. People are friendly enough, and I think the old adage where you take yourself there you are. Massage is less expensive in Thailand and all things equal not better. None of these therapist know how to do real neck work, but massage is still valuable, so I partake of it weekly here as well. Infrastructure like post office, roads, is better in Thailand. Wifi is everywhere here and in some places just as fast as anything in CM. My condo here has much faster then my condo in CM. Beaches are a wee bit cleaner in Thailand. I haven't seen a policeman in Hoi An in the entire 6 weeks since moving here. My Thai drivers license is accepted here, and I understand if I ride to Da Nang I might meet a few men in blue or green I think. It was almost a weekly occurrence along the canal rode where I lived in CM. Food prices are too close to call, and I have a lot delivered by a great service. Organic was better in CM because of Rimping. I found an incredible bread baker here, and I would say overall my circle is already larger and more comfortable here, and again I really enjoyed my time in CM other than the air quality last year which was way worse then this year! Again, the visa situation is why I am here. Hoi An is very comfortable for me and I would highly recommend checking out Vietnam and seeing how it fits for you. I do have to mention the motor scooter scene here is insane. Its like being in a video game! Much prefer riding in Thailand...much! All in all I prefer it here for the time being and would love to explore in a year or so the Philippines, Ceylon, and being drawn to Malaysia as well. One last thing, I do believe if a person is on a very limited budget based on housing and food prices, one could get by quite well here for under 800 a month, and that is going out for coffee and renting a motor scooter which cost me $150 a month. If you need an easy visa transition to here let me know I have a friend in Saigon that makes it seamless. 9
Popular Post Caldera
Anyone who is free to move could simply move to elsewhere within Thailand, if air quality is the main concern. Same in Vietnam, there are places with toxic air and places with great air. For that reason, I don't think air quality is a good "Thailand vs. Vietnam" criterion. 2
