As I did say in #6 "It's just something I can't stomach", and I am being honest about it, I have nothing against gays or lesbians. I am all for them having equal rights, and if they want to kiss in public sel-a-vee, I am not going to stop them, however will have to turn the other way, as I said, it's just something I cannot stomach, I don't have the explanation for it, nothing to do with fear or anything else as it's not something I have become accustomed to, or I suppose exposed to when growing up, for right or wrong, the good now is that gays have rights, e.g. to marry in certain countries, everything in time, like the banning of black slavery coming out of America, woman being able to vote, etc, etc. Watching two men kiss, to me is no different to receiving a video on messenger from a mate who sends me 7 young men being beheaded for alleged sex crimes, it's something I can't handle, and yes I know they are at different ends of the spectrums, but it just is what it is. To sum up, I have a gay brother, never bothered me about his sexuality, it's his life and if he is happy, so be it, I don't think it's odd that he is with a male as a partner, if he is attracted to a male, then why shouldn't he be with that person, but I do remember saying to him years ago, if your gonna kiss him, let me know so I can look the other way, you can guess what he did....lol Edited February 27, 2020 by 4MyEgo
DrTuner
Gays, lesbians, Chinese actors shoehorned into Hollywood productions because Chinese own a studio, metoo characters, etc .. every time I see them in a flick it's a yawn, not interested and off to the fridge for a cold beer. Nothing of interest to me, simple as that. I can associate more with old black and white WW2 movies than those. A human body is a human body, regardless of gender. What revolting is the behaviour of damning other people's sexuality simply because it's not like yours. Why is it ok for a male's mouth going at it on a vagina or a female's mouth, but not ok on another male's dick or his mouth? As long as it's not pedophilia or necrophilia or bestiality - in short any sexual rigmarole between consensual human adults that's not injurious or wounding or involving children and animals (simply because these two groups could not consent to have sex with anyone) then it's all "normal" sex to me. I did find revolting the subject of a docu (not porn) some years ago about a group of gay men having sex with horses, some deaths resulted from such sexual activities - luckily not on the part of the horses I might say. Brokeback Mountain was able to cross the gay barrier because it had a sad ending for the male closeted character. Had he come out of his closet and been able to live a decent open gay life, the movie would not have been that popular. I did not see BM simply because it promoted such defeatist life-style for the gay community. BM's director, Ang Lee ("Crouching tiger", "the life of Pi" etc.) also made an earlier movie ("the Wedding Banquet") in which the gay character had to get married and on wedding night had sex with his bride while highly inebriated, that did not sit well with me either. I would prefer not to see anyone of any gender having pretend sex in a movie. It's never a necessary part of the movie and adds nothing of importance. If I wanted to watch people copulating I'd get a porno. It wasn't necessary in the 50s and they made good movies then.

Grumpy John
These days I don't watch TV and rarely go to the movies. But a while back was having the Car air o/hauled in PhiChit so to kill a few hours we went to the cinema. Can't remember the name of the show, it was Thai, but it was hilarious....and kind of stupid at the same time. There where English subtitles but it was easier to Watch and listen. Went past the cinema yesterday and nothing on their list was worth 1 baht, little own 110 baht! In the main Real movies stopped being made after 2010. Sad really. Can't remember any movie where explicit sex was necessary for the story. Not long ago I remember watching a pretty good TV series, think it was called Strike Back, lots of action and good locations, just good fun to watch. In Each and every episode one of the main characters would have a sex scene which had nothing to do with the storyline Gave up watching after a few episodes. Just didn't like it. DrTuner
The sex scenes are there so young guys can grab their girlfriends on the sofa when binging on netflix. Old dudes don't need excuses.

That said, Movies like music is very much a personal thing, I didnt like the latest Tarrentino movie , I thought it was boring. Too much budget restraint and CGI, no real locations, decent actors etc, its all manufactured conveyor belt stuff and re-booted story lines from previous incarnations. There are a few out there but few and far between in my book. I've also enjoyed past Tarantino films, but agree that the latest one was so boring that I switched it off less than half way through. Recent Hollywood films are much too long, riddled with scientific inaccuracies and are all so sickeningly politically correct and woke. I've given up on them.

Airalee
Ford v Ferrari. Just watched it tonight. Wow! Just a great story about the most incredible car (IMHO) ever to be built. No intertwined love story, no wokeness, no “lesson to be learned”...just pure entertainment.

johnray
You need to learn to watch movies in other languages. Every country has its golden age of movies not just Hollywood.
lemonjelly
Relying too much on CGI at the expense of plots and acting as well as catering for the teenage computer game players has dumbed down a lot of the market.

My list would include such classics as The Cruel Sea, The Quiet Man, Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Good Morning Vietnam, Two for the Road, plus almost anything made by Studio Ghibli. About the only thing that the internet is good for, IMO, other than porn and wasting time on forums is being able to watch movies we loved many years ago, and never thought to see again.

He makes either good movies or atrocious ones and that was in the latter category, IMO. I watched A Shot in the Dark the other night. Typical Blake Edwards movie- froth but entertaining. Movies should be entertaining. If people want serious, make documentaries.

And the fact that it is situated in Bangkok gives it an extra edge... The Refn movie is for sure the better one of the two.
