Thailand's tourism minister: Everything will be fine after Songkran - the hot weather will blow the virus away!

With all of his medical expertise, I suggest that he get advice from someone other than the village witch doctor.  There is no proof whatsoever that hot weather deters the virus.  Besides it really can't get much hotter than it already is.  Weather related viruses are generally spread by mosquitoes and insects.

And it hasn't even been tested on animals yet, so I would imagine the chances of it being available for humans within the next 6 months is pretty slim.

I am sorry ... This is total garbage... The rest of the world ... both hot and cold is preparing for a pandemic... I suggest that the land of smiles is going to have less smiles in the future... Please get real ... for Thailand and it's people... Chinese will NOT be back for 6 to 8 months.. The Indians will reduce with it now reaching India.. Grow up ... This man should be arrested under the computer fraud legislation for distributing false information...

I have recently checked .. this man has no medical training except for a first aid course ...

As a member of government ... your lies will damage the people...

Does him being a member of Government exclude him from the illegal distribution of misinformation on the the internet? Who is going to investigate this rich political identity ..

How can can can he save face after such ..... idiotic and disinformational behaviour..

I look forward to seeing some arrests of this fool..

He told Thai Rath after a meeting in the south that the virus does not like hot weather and along with other countries entering summer its impact will lessen.

there was some (conflicting) input on one of the other threads, that research has found the virus to thrive more so in cooler climates ( and inside with airconditioners)

"the kingdom's renowned health facilities, respected and appreciated across the globe"

What sort of sick joke is that?  The likes of Bum Run Glad, and Bangkok Pattaya throwing open their doors to treat the mass infected out of the goodness of their hearts are they?

Whilst his comments may seem daft, if you check the research, influenxa virus does not survive in areas of heat and humidity. So the comments are not quite as daft as at first site. Most influenza outbreaks occur in areas of low heat and humidity, and disappear as temperature and humidity rise. The virus is not as sustainable in highr humidity.

This is not really true. The fact is that researchers believe that virus not like heat because that our bodies react with fever in a try to kill the virus. If that reaction is right , well noone knows really, The sorry thing in this are two. We have to have a real hot summer in Thailand, at least 38 - 40 degrees Celcius for an average time. The second is that people also dies of high temperature.

The winner of this years Dickh##d Darwin award for 2020.

Not necessarily. The scientific community seems to be divided on this issue.

And, of course, he is surrounded by lots of competitors for the title!

"After Songkran the worst will be behind us"

"We'll be back to normal within half a year,"

Plus he expected his Chinese friends to have come up with a vaccine by then.

Such an irresponsible remarks....imbecile...

Irresponsible is completely the wrong word, type stupid into Word and then select control f7 for the full list.

He really does need to be replaced with someone who has some experience in the tourism market!

The Tourist Minister is not the Official for making assertions of this kind. He should not be making statements of this nature without evidence. He is giving the impression that potential visitors can book flights to Thailand now, in time for Songkran or just a little later.

As far as I know this virus is quite new so how does he know it doesn't like the hot weather? In any event, The information about the virus limitations would be more about what temperatures it can or cannot survive under. That is the province of real Medical people.

Given alarm bells are ringing thousands of kms from here (Italy and Middle East)  it would seem prudent to say nothing until a recognised Official from WHO can say something we can believe and have confidence in!

There is only ONE (1) thing that the Tourism Minister is interested in and that's in his job title - he doesn't give 2 hoots about whether his comments are substantiated or not - they've been printed and people of a certain mentality will believe him!

Sounds to me you are blowing a lot of hot air.????

Hmmm

The thairath headline translate ...

“Tourism Minister believes that after the end of April 63, the situation of the Covid-19 virus will ease.”

similar...

But the TVF “special” translation sound more exciting for the TVF member right?

The hot weather has already blown away, not the virus, but the minister`s mind...

Prepare for a full year of virus decimated tourism. This pandemic is the worst of our times, unfortunately.

Stop telling lies and face the truth even if you are a Thai and even if it goes against your nature !

Facing truth and accept reality is the first step, you don`t go there, you will never be able to solve a problem.

What this government is doing, is just talking nicely and waiting that the storm goes away...

That`s not a proper reaction to a pandemic...

Predictable FVF peanut gallery responses.

""It's not unreasonable to make the assumption" that cases will die down come spring, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told NPR. "We hope when the weather gets warmer it will diminish a bit," he says. "

For those who don't know who Dr Anthony Fauci is. He is a famous immunologist and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH)

I see the words "assumption" and "hope" and think  - nobody KNOWS!

You've been warned. The time to act is now. Hunker in place would be my call. Self-medicate at home. Hospitals will be no-go zones. Up 2 u. Pray lads, Pray.

Mr Conspiricy Theorist do you want to explain why China would kill milliions of it's own people while restricting said people so they can't travel and spread the disease. Why would they ruin thier thriving economy?
