Future Forward accusations of PM’s role in 1MDB ‘groundless’

The government has rejected as “groundles” the recent accusation by the dissolved Future Forward Party of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha being involved in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), one of the biggest financial scams in Malaysia.

 

Government Spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat denied the allegation on her Facebook and Twitter accounts, adding that related agencies are now considering pursuing legal action against the accuser and will make a public announcement to clarify the matter. Narumon added that the accusation will only cause confusion in the minds of the public.

 

On Sunday, Future Forward Party spokesperson Pannika Wanich spent an hour and a half making their case against Prayut for his performance over the last six years and four months without an opposition. She had also said that the premier was involved with the 1MDB scandal during the censure debate arranged by the now-defunct opposition party.

 

Pannika said that the Future Forward Party, which was dissolved by the charter court on Friday, would continue the promises that they had made during the general election campaign as political activists instead of as politicians.

Really, I would have thought that they would have come out and said something on the lines of: yeh, and so, what are you going to do about it ?

 

After all they have steamrolled their way around for the past 6 and a half years without any justification, haven't they ?

There was a Malaysian businessman who travelled in and out of Thailand several times even though Singapore issued an arrest warrant for him with interpol. Why was he allowed to travel and why wasn't he arrested? Prayut had 44 at the time.

Hope they will have hard, irrefutable evidence, as the only that will save them will be the international court of opinion.   cha cha and friends hate having the foreigners look down at them.

The government also harboured Malaysian financier Low Taek Jho, known as Jho Low, allowing him to enter the country at least five times between October 2016 and May 2018, despite Low having an Interpol red notice from Singapore, she said.

 

I wonder if they can clarify this at the same time?

Well, surely if the accusations are 'groundless', and given the Thai libel laws being so heavily weighted in favour of complainants, then there would be no allegations at all..

 

I accept that occasionally, 'groundless' accusations are made, but if the public view the allegations as being reasonable or consistent with Mr Prayuth's previous history and what is known about his behaviour, then denials are likely to be worthless, and from here on, whatever action is taken will be viewed as having the intent to silence the allegations rather then disproving them.

 

If this is the case, then Mr Prayuth cannot win because the public view will be whether or not the accusations are consistent with what else is known about him, rather than on whether or not there is actual evidence.

 

Head they win, tails you lose, and in my opinion this could not apply to a more appropriate man, because what is alleged appears to be entirely consistent with his previous behaviours and attitudes, and what else is known about the man. Surely nobody can believe that this is an upright and honest man, deserving of public support.
