Weinstein found guilty of sexual assault, rape, in turning point for #MeToo movement

This trial was at a New York court, not federal court, right?

Correct me if I am wrong on this, but fairly sure president can only pardon federal crimes. This was a state crime & Trump cannot pardon.

I once attended a lecture (1974) given by a lawyer about avoiding the risk of false rape accusations in the UK.

His conclusion was to be entirely safe, you would need a signed consent form witnessed by two impartial people who could attest not only to her willing consent but her mental state and sobriety at the time.

I don’t think being accused of rape was bothering many men in 1974, though I suspect many were getting concerned about women demanding justice and dominion over their own bodies.

Correct, and the convicted rapist will serve his sentence at Rikers Island.

Just a thought.  So what message is this verdict sending?

1.  That people in power cannot abuse power to obtain sex.

Ok, I agree.

OR

2.  Women can change their mind about "consent."

Hmmm, that may be a problem.

I don't think #2 is what happened here.  But I hope some women don't view it that way.

Why shouldnt a prosecutiin be forceful.

In which case.

Why shouldn't you be forceful in getting consent?

Most negotiations for anything are forceful, buying a house/car/insurance/corporate takeover/buyin foreign oil all involve a modicum of coercion. Why is it access to a 'woman' should have to follow a different set of rules? It's just business.

If coercion or force are wrong in any situation, surely they should be wrong in all situations.

He sure didn't do himself any favors by looking like a bag of sh..t at every court appearance !!

Looked to me exactly like the sleaze he was portrayed as being.

Is agreeing to accept a movie role for sex giving consent?  Just saying...

That isnt what happened though

I agree.  I believe he was found guilty of actual rape.  But it seems "the movement" is suggesting that the other cases of quid pro quo sex for a movie role was also considered criminal.  Maybe I'm reading too much into that, but that's what Weinstein was mostly engaged in (in addition to the rape(s)).  It's sleazy and evil as heck, but perhaps not criminal.

just come out on the News, the perp is continuing his Act...

not just the Pusher, but had himself just now rushed to hospital

He really doesn't 'have' to Act anymore... he's already got the starring role

So according to some "hang him higher" fanatics here it is quite common for victims of a rape that they meet their rapist later to have sex with him. Or send love messages to their rapist. Or ask their rapist for jobs/help/free flights.

A bit strange, isn't it?

Benefit of the doubt? Ahh, for what! Jail him!

I do not often agree with what you say but you hit the nail on the head. Men sleep well.
