Police and rescue services rushed to the Condochain in downtown Hua Hin yesterday lunchtime after they got a 191 call that a foreign man was threatening to jump from a 6th floor balcony.

Mr G.C. , a 67 year old American, dressed in a pair of shorts had cuts to his neck and wrist.

Two large airbags were deployed as the tourist police went to room 116 on the 6th floor of the 19 story building.

Soon the police enlisted the help of Nawaporn, 31, the American's wife.

In floods of tears she managed to talk her husband round though it took 2 hours, reported Ban Muang.

In the end the American was safely taken off to Hua Hin Hospital.

Ban Muang said that he bought the condo years ago and was staying there with his wife.

They said that stress from living with a medical condition had brought on the suicide attempt in which he had taken a knife to himself before threatening to jump. ,
