Who were those mystery people who arrived, is TAT perhaps paying unemployed Thai's to fly out and then back in to Thailand just to bolster the numbers? Or were they all transit passengers who arrived and then flew on to somewhere else? It's a real mystery that we need to get to the bottom of! The presence of a capital on "Cloin" would seem to indicate that "Cloin" is a person, thus, "who" is correct, not "what". "What" would indicate an object, no capital.

Popular Post christophe75
January is not interesting. What is interesting is of course... february. Then it will be much more difficult for TAT or the so called tourism "minister" to say that the number.... went up. Albeit... many things are possible in Thailand ???? By the way, this is the guy.... who went to Italy to check... if late opening for bars and other night venues were good for tourism, right ? ???? The wuwuflu virus has at least one merit : it will prevent those clowns to open their mouth and annoy us with their phantasmagorical "numbers", "figures", "statistics" and other "ideas", "plans" etc. A holly silence will prevail from now on... Thanks lord. Edited February 27, 2020 by christophe75 2

January 2020 had 4,262,982 foreign arrivals. Minus 195,231 diplomats, Thailand ELITE, Privilege, APEC, ACMECS, etc. Minus 256,604 NON-90, NON 1, 2 and 3 years Presto we have 3,811,147 foreign visitors. TAT is in fact just reporting fact! January 2020.xlsx 80.23 kB · 1 download In all fairness, TAT report amended twaddle. With ALL businesses reporting heavy drops in trade, laying off staff and deserted restaurants, I would have to say that the 'visitors' is more likely a surge in people transiting through Thailand to get home rather than tourists 2

Emdog
From time to time TV posters complain about lack of math skills among Thais. But look at TAT: they show facility with imaginary numbers, can square 2 negative numbers and come up with a positive. This shows they are at least at an intro algebra high school level. Oh, yesterday morning around 11 there was a convoy of maybe 10 of those brightly colored buses heading south on Jomtien Beach Road. Rare even in normal times. I thought of old movies showing elephants supposedly going off to special location to die. Cheers

Sorry but that's not correct, there may not be a transit lounge but there are plenty of transit desks in both airports. And AOT very clearly distinguishes between arriving passengers and transit passengers, the AOT stats. reconcile to Immi. numbers. https://www.airportthai.co.th/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Annual-Airport-2018.pdf

Of course they are and rightly so counted as a tourist. They enter most likely with a 30 days visa except stamp. Once in the country whether the tourist have an icecream turn around and leave or stay 3 weeks in a 5 star resort only boil down to spendings and here TAT is at best guessing.

madmitch
Most hotels near me were close to 100% occupancy in January. Chinese groups stopped arriving at the end of the month but remember last year Chinese numbers were down as a result of the Phuket boat incident, so only 4% or so down is believable as other months had seen an increase. The numbers were down on December 2018 as well. Utilising their probable creative definition of a tourist, I have no reason to doubt thee figures but as many have said, Feeebruary will make more interesting reading.
