Koh Larn's infamous mountain of trash has been much reduced due to Pattaya City Hall's measures following a big budget allocation to address the problem, reported Thai media.

Now they hope the Thai government will approve plans for an incinerator that will be a permanent solution.

Yesterday deputy mayor Manote Nongyai went with his officials, health and environmentalists to inspect the work carried out at Khao Nom on the holiday island after a budget of 7,190,000 was approved at the end of 2019.

Some 50,000 tons of trash has now been contained on the 12 rai plot and PVC pipes have been installed to help with the dispersal of gases.

A 250 meter fence with access gate has also been erected.

Manote said that he hopes that the Interior Ministry will approve plans for an incinerator that will solve the problems on the island once and for all.

A decision is expected towards the end of this year meaning that the island's trash crisis will be over next year.

In the meantime improved trash separation measures have helped with the ongoing problems.

" 50,000 tons of rubbish have now been contained on the 12 Rai Plot "

Read as 50,000 tons of rubbish have been covered over with earth on the 12 Rai Plot

Pathetic

The trash has just been buried out of sight, but its still there and rotting ... hence the PVC pipes.

It sounds like they simply buried it all on site, and then put a fence around it.

If they buried it, what did they do with the contents of the hole? Just the fence it seems. Oh, and a couple of old drainpipes.

I expect some brilliant scientist will work out soon how to convert the rubbish into som tam.

As in Koh Samui, in 1997 an incinerator was installed, it never came into operation ... at the beginning it was too large for the amount of waste on the island ... then it was too small ... it is said that a burner has never been installed ... what will be the truth ???

So did they ship it to one of the small islands or what?

Would that be after it was rejected by China, Malaysia, the Philippines, and a few other countries who are no longer allowing the importation of containers of garbage/plastics, etc., from other countries.
