Covid-19: Non-Chinese allowed to stay an extra 30 days if travel plans disrupted

Immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang said on Thursday that non-Chinese nationals who need to stay in Thailand because of travel restrictions placed upon them can apply to stay in the kingdom for an extra 30 days.

Sompong said that such foreigners need to present letters from embassies or consulates in Thailand in pursuance of such extensions of stay.

This was the limit of the powers of immigration to help at this point, he noted.

Chinese nationals - especially those from high risk areas - continue to stay in Thailand and there are no fines being levied.

Daily News reported that there are 1,765 people in Thailand from Wuhan and Gwangzhou. None have the virus and all have been checked.

Chinese people from other high risk areas are also in the kingdom and none of those have the virus either.

Health officials were at pains to point out that Thailand's screening efforts are good.

Moves have been made by immigration and health officials to improve information gathering about people who have travelled from high risk areas including 19 countries on a watchlist.

Adjusted measures will be in place from today said Pol Maj-Gen Surapong Chaijan, a deputy in the IB.

Whats with the machine gun goons?

Yeah. This is a new look. And not a good one.

Is this 30 days extension on top of the regular 30 day extension?

Who knows? They rarely think a proposal through past the annoucnement. But my guess would be one additional extension, on top of whatever you might legally have access to. DOubt many embassies are up to speed on whatever letter might be required?

Whats with the machine gun goons? Whitey can stay for an extra 30days But anymore and the goons are after. Thats the impression i get. Things getting pretty weird..

I think it's because of the announcement by his excellency the PM that half of them (generals) will be gone in 8 years. That has to be why they look so worried... surely not concern about a few non-Chinese foreigners!

What about those "non-Chinese" who reject face masks handed out by the public health minister and who are threatened with being thrown out of the country for that grave insult? Will they be able to stay an additional 30 days regardless? Or will those goons in the background come for them?

No one is at risk of being deported for not wearing a mask, and no official announcement has ever said that they are.

A picture paints a thousand words and this one speaks volumes. Thanks for showing the world exactly what Thailand is: in my day the IRA used to take similar photos. You often see photos like this when terrorists hold press conferences and that Says it all.

Yep, it beggars belief as to why they felt it necessary to have heavily armed SWAT team standing behind them for a press conference about immigration & tourists.

Typlcal Thai mind set. Change their minds, but will not accept defeat or wrong doing.

Getting desperate? when not so long ago non Chinese where looked down upon as street dogs and told to FXXK OFF!!!!!!!

At last, the tables have turned, time for Thai to come to terms at how important (FXXK OFF) westerners are to Thailand...

Yup, it’s kinda like

“ 30 days okay, anymore than that and we’ll mow you down in the street !! “

Could be something to do with the recent attack on Big Joke ?

Whoever (Gangsters)attacked him may have threatened to attack a news conference or something

And they have been checked by whom?  How?  Temperature check?  Did all these from the affected areas have a full check and be put under quarantine?  I think not.  There are bound to be a few superspreaders in there.
