Surin: Children for sale for sex - crackdown on karaoke bars in north east Thailand

Children - one as young as 14 - were being offered to men for sex at karaoke bars in Surin.

 

Thai agencies raided three lounges set up on Route 226 in Sikhoraphum district in the central part of the north eastern province.

 

Some 19 sex workers were found. Seven were under the age of 18.

 

Several were still using the appellation of "dek ying" (ด.ญ.) or "female child" in their names.

 

One was just 14.

 

Leader of the raid Narong Thipsiri said that this was a serious crime that was human trafficking.

 

He said the world was watching Thailand regarding its record in dealing with such cases.

 

INN suggested that one man was arrested but gave no precise details except to say that investigations continue.

 

They called it a "Crackdown in Elephant City" - the name often given to Surin.

However, the bosses of these establishments are quite often policemen, military or other connected officials, and money talks, so I don't expect we'll hear much more about anyone arrested.

I thought everybody told me prostitution in Thailand was illegal how are all these bars having all these women but then again no prostitution in Thailand and as far as being a country with Buddhist believe or just money hungry seems like to be a lot of that fake stuff going around here in this country

You are right, it's like they just pop up out nowhere in the middle of the jungle drive at night down from BKK and you will see loads

Too many families with the excuse of poverty sell their children!
Unfortunately, the police in Thailand are totally ineffective, one takes and another 100 get away with it.
Karaoke are mostly brothels ...

Karaoke bar, body massage parlour, dress it up any way you like but in every town and often village in Thailand there will be a brothel or two.  As for the Buddhism call, well Thai's overriding commitment is to the great god money and everything else comes second to that!  They certainly pay lip service to the Buddha but pick and choose the bits that work for them.

 

Hypocrisy is everywhere, it often takes sometime to clearly see it.

I'm guessing, the teenagers on offer were getting a bit long in the tooth, so the bosses decided it was time to start over with a fresh new crew. 

 

Or, at least, if that's not what they intended to do, that's probably what they'll end up doing, one way or the other.

Despicable places , should all be Closed , Rip -Off Clip joints , Drug you and  take your money Or Overcharge, I woke up to a Bill for 36 shots of Tequila, I remember 1 only and both girls I was with were both passed out in toilet, they just drugged everybody, without a Care

Very sad but welcome to Thailand or even the Far East. This/these places cater for Thai men exclusively just like 90% of the industry. It's everywhere in Thailand and some places look like massive hotels all lined up in a very long street in BKk.

Doesn't sound much like a Thai karaoke out in the sticks. Very rare to see a farang in them and are run and frequented by the local hoi poloy. Very unusual to drug someone and pad the bill. They try to avoid trouble at all costs.

Sad, filthy business indeed. Thank the Gods some of these kids have been taken out of this. Sadly many more to go through this hell and life destroying abuse and trauma.

If anyone, ANYONE, knows or suspects a person of having, or grooming children for sex put them in NOW.

Always Thais' usually women, often the mother.. I doubt that a farang would get to know.

What have you got against brothels?

It's not like they are unique to Thailand. Many good old Christian countries have brothels too.

Read the story, it is about underage girls working in karaoke bars in Thailand, nothing to do with Africa or homosexuality!

Been going on for years, kids used to brought down from the North and sold in Klong Toey twenty five years ago, all under control of Thais i might add........ There's some pretty deviant Thais as well as Farangs.....  Sadly and ashamedly so poor families used to sell their daughters into bonded labour, slavery for want of a better word to a Thai pimp, looks like it's still going on........  Land of smiles eh ?   just take a look under the vaneer, you'll fill your draws ......
