Popular Post Lacessit
I've come to quite like Sangsom, the Thai rum. Have swapped to it from Scotch whisky, Bells, Benmore etc. Mix it with diet Coca-Cola, call me a Philistine if you want. It was good enough for the Beatles. I usually buy the 700 mL bottle, 286 baht in Big C. Next to it is a 1 litre bottle, 430 baht. Doing the sums, I get 1 ml of whisky out of the 1 litre bottle for 0.430 baht. If I buy the 700 mL bottle, 1 ml costs me 0.409 baht. What's the logic here? The glass of the bigger bottle cost that much more? Has me stumped, why would I want to pay more? For those of you who want to say I'm anally retentive or OCD, you are probably right. Just thought I'd save you the trouble of posting. 5

Popular Post BritManToo
The 700ml bottles are often better value than the 1l bottles for all Thai drinks. Strange but true. My advice, Switch to Hong Thong, same taste but 250bht for 700ml. Edited February 29, 2020 by BritManToo 5 1

I'm trying to understand the logic, because usually the more one buys of any product, the cheaper it should be. Bulk buying is the zenith of that business practice. The diet Coke is just incidental. I don't like the regular stuff, too sugary and sweet.

I think you aren't far off there - It not just whisky, I am forever telling the wife to think about what she buys at Big C, as things are often cheaper when buying larger sizes - when I pull out my calculator, yes, sometimes you can make a saving but so often the saving isn't worth worrying about. Some items are more expensive in the larger size. I would suggest that the OP buy a box of sangsom, either the small or large bottles, at least he will save the petrol on going to buy the bottles.

It does indeed seem to be the Thai way. We buy the smaller bottle for the bar. A 700 bottle gives 14 shots which equates to 20.4 Baht per shot. A 1 litre bottle gives 20 shots which equals 21.5 Baht. Ok 1 Baht per shot is not going to make a million, and I am sure someone will be along in a minute with a derogatory quip but I do it to try to teach the wife a kind of business sense............definitely a work in progress, but getting there. 5
