Was half way through seeding and had to park up,lot of standing water. Will assess in a weeks time whether to continue or start again! All my dams were full and creek flowing months a go so didn't need it. But if it has helped others out, happy to take one for the team. We have been lucky, just enough rain to keep us going without watering for months, and just a few heavy dowfalls. Only service started my well pump for checking water and if there is any contanimation In it after the heavy rainfalls, but so far So good.
Grumpy John
I started the bore pump today for the first time in 2 weeks. Just a 2 minute run. The guy who installed it said weekly, but not need any water!

Grumpy John
Well, well, well! Mother nature has blessed us with more water during the night...not that we needed more water! Some of the ones growing long stem rice have had the misfortune of the rain knocking over large swaths which may need to be hand harvested...if in fact it can be harvested. At the house 50+mm at the orchard 50+mm and at #2 orchard 45.0mm

The trees growing to quick and the soil to soft, so we have to support them and guide them for not falling over. Trees one year now, and the Yangna trees thrives very well. Non of them need any support so far.

THis Yangna tree you mention, does it produce fruit? Does it have a Western name? You can read about it here. We choosed them for long term low maintanence "investment", and also great for shades around the land, where we plant others crops and trees. It is a remarkable tree if you ask me, and I like them. Always seen them along the roads, and their are just majestic trees. I also like the Raintree Samanea Saman, but those take to much space, and Im not sure of the long term value. Yang Na can be 700 years old, and feels good to plant a sustainable tree, to write off my bad conscience ???? plant a tree, it feels good. http://tropical.theferns.info/vfiewtropical.php?id=Dipterocarpus+alatus Yes it is a great place to live, and I love it, and what we managed to build here the last year from depleted soil to what we have now. Still some more work to do, but now waiting for getting access with truck to bring in more sand, gravel and cement to finish. Grumpy John
What were are looking for is a tree that can tolerate exposure to overspray from pesticides and other chemi that would blow across land we have reserved for organic grape production or maybe other use. But we'd need a tree that can exist in a plantation grouped reasonably closely and grow no more than 7-9 metres high. Fruit production is not a priority. The prevailing wind most of the time is from the South East. But the possible fly in that ointment is the Chatree gold mine wants a huge swath of land Kho Kheaw which is Moo 5 Wang Phlong all the way down towards Nam Om in Phetchabun including the 60 rai of land which is for Tik and her brothers when Mar goes to live with the forebears. Of which 20 rai WE could grow vines on. So, the mine could get 500.000rai without the many orchardists and farmers getting proper compensation. Sor por Cor land was given to the people at the Kings pleasure..... No title just peoples name in a book possessed by Po Ya Ban. If your thinking that sounds Dodgy....you would be right. We can't do a dam thing until then issue is settled...one way or another.

Everyone said thank you but bo thanks. They waiting for the promisses of chanote now should be fullfied. The other title you talking about can not change title right? The King could reclaim the land...but in the current environment I doubt he would discuss the matter. But where there is a will there is a way and my guess is the mine owners have become very cosy with some people in government. No brown envelopes will remain unfilled. Tagged
First rainfall this year was 9 of february and I, and the next weeks we had some few more showers coming. This month nothing, but today I feel there is something in the air. Good start at the year. 1
farmerjo
Yes the season looks promising. Since the 9th Feb we've had 79mm of rain. Planted 17 rai of sunn hemp on the 15th March and had a timely 12mm on the 16th and can see it coming up today. Just finishing preparing the rest of land now but will wait till Songkran to plant something to hedge my bets in case we have a dry spell between now and then. As with the thunder storms the weather sites are hit and miss. Edited March 19, 2021 by farmerjo 1
kickstart
From 3-5 th of this month we had 85 mm of rain , on the 21st March last year we had 71 mm in one hit .then from March to August we only had on average 70 mm month ,barely enough to keep things ticking over ,almost a drought . Lets hope this year is not a repeat of last year ,the wife keeps looking at her phone and it is saying 10-20% chance of rain ,I said it is now the hot season no proper rain until after Songkran,.........if then .
Tagged
What kind of rain collectors do you guys use? I need to order one now. I have written down in my phone calender small - medium and big rain so far, but want a decent collector now. Looking at Lazada but not happy with what I find there https://s.lazada.co.th/s.dlUMr
farmerjo
I brought this nylex rain gauge back from Aus in 2005 and still going strong.
Tagged
Got a nice little shower 2 nights ago, and been quite chill since then. Refreshing Roughly 1000 l on my 6m x 6m roof collected. On the big roofs, all my tanks was full again, so nice for land and pond.

We got 27mm on the 4th which was ideal. We are now on watch for the snakes coming out. The early morning after the rain the FIL saw a large reticulated python near the house and tonight a copper head racer made it's way into our house yard. The joys of having a lake 10 metres from the house.

Looking at Lazada but not happy with what I find there I use a similar rain gauge to this one had it for a few years now ,works for me ,but printing of the graduation numbers are getting worn ,job to read ,but still works OK . We had the mother of all thunderstorms this afternoon 83 mm in an hour and a half . The thing I was pleased with was that my French Drain worked ,water coming from a low point in the field always sits in water after a lot of rain ,most surprised at how quick the water flowed . Pipe is 4inch PVC pipe with holes and slots cut in ,rapped in two layers of shade cloth and 3 cubes of stone in the trench, water flowing in to that was our well empty pond ,now about 40% full .
