PHUKET: More than 2,000 passengers and crew on board the Costa Fortuna cruise liner that arrived in Patong Bay this morning (Mar 6) have been refused permission to come ashore. The ban follows officials confirming that 64 Italians on board left Italy in the past 14 days.

The move follows the Thai government yesterday instituting a 14-day quarantine on all people arriving from China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macao, Iran and Italy.

The Costa Fortuna arrived in Patong this morning on its scheduled overnight stop with 1,631 passengers and 984 crew and ship staff on board.

This ship has been cruising around Asia , home ported in Singapore. It hasn't come from Italy recently.

The current cruise started from Singapore on 3 march.

I'm surprised the company allowed Italians to fly out to join the cruise.

Interesting - would destination 7 be Sihanoukville by any chance? Should be no problem docking here, the Westerdam was welcomed!

No doubt this Cruise Liner will be Escorted from Thai Waters in the same fashion as the " Westerdam "

At the present moment, if I was on board this vessel, I would be glad to get out of Thai waters.

Confidence in any possible screening, Healthcare and the ability of the Thai Gov,t must be at rock bottom among the passengers.

Yes. Armed Police were seen rushing to the pontoon wharves to drive away those who attemped to come ashore on numerous boats. It leaves one to marvel at how little communication and co-ordination could exist with such a large operation.

Interesting, these people all saw what's happened on the Diamond Princess in Japan and boarded a cruise ship anyway

Because they travel with luggage full of lysol and handwipes, at least that how they say they travel when interviewed on a news clip last night showing 6, I repeat 6, cruise ships lining up quayside at a Florida port ready to sail away when everyone has gotten on board. I think they want the one of a kind adventure, being a socia; media star while sipping your margarita during on board quarantine.
