Popular Post webfact
Entertainment venue owners don’t agree with plan to shut them down By The Nation FILE photo Owners of Chiang Mai’s entertainment venues came out against the Public Health minister’s plan to close entertainment venues to curtail the spread of Covid-19. The measure has been submitted to the national Covid-19 prevention committee led by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. The committee is expected to decide on the case today (March 16). One of the owners of entertainment venues in the province said he doesn’t agree with the measure because it would heavily impact business. The government should come up with better solutions and prevention methods, he added. During the period following the Covid-19 outbreak, more than half of the customers to his entertainment venue disappeared, which is causing his business severe trouble, he said, warning that if the government confirms it will close the venues, around 10,000 people will lose their jobs. With its myriad entertainment venues, pubs, bars, restaurants and karaoke shops, Chiang Mai has 10,000 people working in these facilities. If the government shuts them down, owners will cooperate, but it is inevitable that the 10,000 will lose their jobs. He said they have already followed Public Health Ministry guidelines, also checking the temperature of customers before they enter. If anyone was found to have temperature exceeding 37.5 celsius, they would be prohibited from entering. Chiang Mai’s tourist sites and venues are bearing the brunt of decreasing tourist numbers as many, scared of contracting Covid-19, decide to stay home. Popular Post darksidedog
Tough call and tourism is taking a serious beating. It is probably best in the long run to close non essential places, as people crowded together are likely to infect each other, and then the situation will get worse. If closing keeps the customers alive, they can always come again another day of course. People have to eat though, so one hopes restaurants at least can keep their doors open, even if they provide a take away service only. 9

J Town
My son's industry - all casinos in Washington State - just got shut down. Most of the workers are kept under 32 hours a week which means they don't qualify for unemployment. I see bad things on the horizon.

This guy is a complete imbecile.... a low temperature reading at the door is indicative of nothing, it could be a "carrier" prior to symptoms showing. if he thinks cleaning the "bog door handle" is enough he needs to think again! Profit over brains... let him keep his open doors, and when the virus hits his area and customers are zero after a lockdown he might re-think.

This would affect the Thai venues which more than likely swamp the tourist international venues. Thereare alot more places that cater to Thais than the few around the moat which are closed down due to lack of customer.
Popular Post spinner2020
As I write, CM is third worst place in the world for pollution - down from top spot for several days. While I'm sorry for any TV readers stuck there, 1. coronavirus would be a blessing compared to the air they breathe 2. who in h@ll would want to go there anyway? 2
Popular Post cardinalblue
Every CM person is far greater at suffering from air pollution than from the corona virus... air pollution affects everyone at various degrees vs corona only a few.... air pollution kills 8-10 million annually...we are at what 5,000 and counting...
yellowboat
These bars pictured close promptly at midnight. Then you go across the moat to a single club that packs out until 2am when it closes, and that is your night every night. Night life there lacks a vibe. It is all chill and no excitement. Maybole
Remember Prohibition in America. A forced closure of many legal venues would result in back shops springing up. A bonanza for criminality.

The question is: How to get rid of the CCP when they also hold a nuclear trigger. I can assure you that most Chinese would gladly see them gone but they have no ability to organize. ukrules
Holding entertainment venues liable for the outcome of their actions will make them view this very differently. Personally I prefer a compulsory shutdown of it all backed by military enforcement. 1
Number 6
Absolutely guarantee massage joints/soapies and lounges (Ratchada, etc) will not be closed. They will be the epicenters of virus transmission. All those soapies. PT women will stay away. Full timers will go to work and pray. The business will stay open bc the owners count their money from afar. Coffee shops? Total incubator. Standing in line shopping. Deadly. This country will get stomped. I still believe fresh air and sunshine to be helpful in the fight. They are not vaccines.

Could be a good idea for the bars to do that too...................'provide a take away service' so you are only infecting one other person????!
