webfact
70,000 students in Chiang Mai go online as schools close amid Covid-19 crisis By The Nation FILE photo Some 150 private and international schools in Chiang Mai are preparing for online learning amid the new coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak. The Chiang Mai provincial education office said that no students would be attending classes at private schools from Tuesday (March 17) while the school websites have announced the temporary halt of some activities and cancellation of summer courses. For example, The Prince Royal's College has announced the cancellation of its summer semester and opened an online platform, including online classroom, homework and test through Microsoft Word 365 and Google Classroom. Montfort College has postponed the first day of the new semester to May 7. Tawatchai Chaiyakan, director of Chiang Mai Provincial Education Office, said that there are 132 private schools and 13 international schools with around 70,000 students in total. The Ministry of Education has asked all schools to cancel summer classes and postpone school reopening to May 7, which may be postponed again if the situation gets worse. Meanwhile, tutorial schools in Chiang Mai were asked to close temporarily to prevent the spread of Covid-19. simon43
As I've found out from recent experience, the Zoom, Zhumu, iTalki, Classin and Skype online platforms cannot provide a reliable internet connection when there is such a high demand for online lessons. The main internet backbone provider - Telia, is having daily outages with its network in Germany of all places, which has a knock-on effect for Zoom, Zhumu and iTalki connectivity. Adobe Classroom has had no problems at all but I guess it depends on which server it is connected to.
eyecatcher
Crappy internet connections, scaling down business operation. Surely something is better than nothing.? I say well done for schools looking at the positive and trying. Far too many people just giving up, and complaining that thry cant continue instead of using their heads to try different options.
