Because this virus has kept mutating, no one knows. If you go Vit C, you need to mega dose with it intravenously or Liposomal. What you get from health food stores ect, are  synthethic..Ascorbic acid. As it being a soluable Vit, it passes straight through your system. Which ever process or combinations of vitamins and antioxidants  you try, boosting your immune system is paramount, which includes exercising as well as a diet high in fruit and vegies. that's my take on it!

I read a post from a nurse in the phillipines who said patients who were given large IV doses of Vitamin C were doing better.

 

Load up on Vitamin D, naturally via sun if possible

 

Elderberry extract (inhibits viral replication)

 

reduce sugar and alcohol

So any fat lardie with high blood pressure and diabetes, who smokes, boozes daily and lives on a diet of fried food, needs only to eat garlic, ginger, onions, turmeric and a handful of aspirin will boost their immune system enough to beat a covid-19 infection, especially if they think positively!

 

Wow, and here I thought proper nutrition, regular cardio and strength training along with plenty of rest was the key!  How could I have been so wrong?

Get plenty of sleep. I read somewhere-can't recall where or guarantee its credibility-that studies showed that people who get less than 7 hours of sleep are 3 time more likely to get the cold or flu. Social distancing, frequent use of hand sanitizers, and I mean frequent, get a portable bottle of sanitizer and use it religiously. Don't touch your face. This, I'm discovering, needs to be a conscious effort at first.  It is so unconscious an act.

 

Excessive alcohol consumption is known to depress the immune system. Hear that, fellow Pattayans?

 

Everyday I juice a combination of mango, raspberry, kale, garlic, passion fruit. I'm not a big believer in the power of supplements, other than their ability to lighten the wallet. B12 is a smart supplement, although maybe not for immunity. Many people have a B12 deficiency.

 

One thing that drives me crazy is people blathering in elevators. People need to keep their freaking traps shut in very confined spaces.

Fresh air is the best thing.

As I stated before, I think addressing the VITAMIN D (preferably D3) is something people should seriously consider in regards to promoting lung health (and resistance to serious reactions due to a viral infection). 

 

I realize Thailand is sunny but there are still a lot of reasons people are not getting enough of it.

 

-- Maybe you don't really go out in the sun much after all

-- Older people tend to absorb sunlight D more poorly

-- Overweight and obese people especially with abdominal far tend to absorb it more poorly

-- There are many common medications that interfere with absorbing it

 

About dosage, older and overweight/obese probably could use more than the standard recommended supplement dosage.

 

Ideally you would go and get a blood study and check if you're deficient. but that really isn't necessary to decide to supplement now.

 

Obviously don't megadose on it but toxic dosages are way higher than you'll get in a typical pill.

I don't see anything in article to convince me that it isn't a good thing to take vitamin d supplements. 

Also sounds like it couldn't hurt to have some zinc in stock to take in case you start feeling symptoms.

Antiviral herbs?

 

To be taken before to strengthen immune system and if it happens after infection.

 

Lomatium Dissectum

Associated with Native Americans. I don't think it's available in Thailand.

 

Elderberry (supplements)

Available in Thailand (pharmacies and Lazada, etc.)

 

I'm not endorsing these herbs but if someone has something to add about them pro or con, you're welcome to comment.

 

This video is about Lomatium but Elderberry is mentioned in the comments and I've heard about it in this context before and the "Doctor" in this video is positive on it as well.

 

Don't blame me for the "politically incorrect" rhetoric in the video regarding Native Americans.

 

I am considering the elderberry. Not expecting any miracles but I don't see how it would hurt.

Star anise

The flower-shaped spice contains shikimic acid that is used as a base material for the production of Tamiflu, which is used for influenza virus. It is super powerful as an anti-viral. Take star anise and boil it in water and add it to your teas like green tea or black tea.

Here's what i aim for..

 

1. 8 hours sleep every night

2. multi vitamin + minerals every morning (include vitamin D)

3. clean diet (plenty of veges, no sugar, low carbs, sensible protein and fat intake)

4. daily fitness workout (brisk walking would do to begin with or calisthenics in the home)

5. no smoking, no alcohol

6. interactions with others (social)

7. annual health check up / blood tests

8. common sense

9. daily fix of ThaiVisa forum ranting to vent frustrations (optional)

Since this is a new virus, only those that have already had it have some sort of immunity, for some period of time.

 

For others, the immune system must first learn how to generate antibodies that work. Not much seems to be known about the parameters affecting the speed with which the novel antibodies develop. Could be dumb luck.

 

Staying healthy in general, sleeping and eating well will at least give the immune system more time to battle it out without the body succumbing to the disease.

Some more thoughts on this. However even though this is largely an anti-supplement article, it made me want to buy some ZINC!
