It has been revealed that the Sports Authority of Thailand asked the chief of Lumpinee Boxing Stadium not to hold any public matches during the covid-19 crisis.

Yet they still went ahead and held a huge and profitable championship that was attended by 5,000 people.

Dozens of people were infected with the virus at the event in Bangkok on March 6th. These have gone on to infect many others with some claiming that this cluster has been responsible for the big spike in cases in Thailand in recent days.

Deputy governor of the SAT said that following a government meeting on the 3rd of this month a letter was sent to Lumpinee the next day to ask them to cooperate and cancel events.

They did not.

Instead on the 6th there was a headline event that featured 11 bouts. The celebrity presenter in the ring was one of the people infected.

Natthawut Reuangwat said that the stadium authorities must now work with the SAT and look at the possibility of compensation.

Thaivisa notes that many of the public are blaming the boxing stadium for putting profit above the welfare of the people.

Subsequently all boxing and boxing related activity in the capital and many provinces elsewhere has been officially stopped with jail time resulting for infractions.

Just now, geriatrickid said:

Trump is expressing his desire, He has yet to follow through. H eis  looking at the parts of the USA where there are minimal cases, where social distancing comes naturally in some rural areas.

The boxing promoters were asked to  close and went ahead.

Can you understand the difference?

I disagree with trump but you are comparing apples to oranges.

One case is a bit more extreme then the other but both sides are just thinking about money. So its the same thing both are thinking about the money. (not a bad thing thinking about money though a lockdown can destroy an economy)

Yeah, bringing down a multi-trillion dollar economy is a wee bit different than a 5,000 seat boxing venue losing a nights profits.

Yea in other news Trump is wanting to open the economy again and stop lockdown. So is it only Thailand.. i doubt it.

A long  lockdown will make millions homeless.

Open up!

Isolate the sick.

Let others work and live.

Someone needs to publicly swing for this one.. but maybe the culprit is a bit too close to home to pay any penalties?
