Popular Post webfact
Hua Hin and area: Department stores ordered shut, restaurants only takeaway, golf cancelled, no congregating Picture: 77kaoded The governor of Prachuap Khirikhan province has upped the ante on closures due to the coronavirus pandemic. All department stores and golf courses and driving ranges have been ordered shut from now until April 7th. Restaurants can only be utilised for take away. There is to be no consumption of food or drink on the premises. Markets can only sell fresh food, dry food, items for making food and other essential items. No consumption of food is to take place on the premises there either. Pet food can be sold. Pharmacies can remain open. No congregation in public areas is to take place such as around footpaths and at dams and reservoirs. Bluport and Market Village shopping malls both shared information saying they would shut until April 7th. Food was available there for takeout only. Necessities could be bought along with items at pharmacies. The new restrictions were in a letter from governor Phallop Singhasenee. There are also restrictions on what government business can be done at local offices that are now restricted to handling birth and death notices and lost Thai ID cards. Eating out at home? Believe it or not I have been in self quarantine at home since March 10 when I started to feel a bit under the weather. I told everybody to go home. I did not crash and I am OK now. I still go grocery shopping but super efficiently. I went from hedonistic utilitarianism to American survivalist in about 48 hours. I was having the best time Dec Jan Feb and then sadly the world hit the wall. 1 1

Popular Post PETERTHEEATER
I went to Hua Hin Market Village this morning with wife to re-provision at Lotus. Just one controlled entrance at the supermarket end. Spot temperature checks to enter Lotus. I am now the proud owner of a piece of green PVC tape stuck to my shirt. Let's see the PM beat that with his pink spot! Ground floor has set up a hollow square of desks representing the (closed) upstairs restaurants. A PYT at the selected desk takes your orders from the menu and relays it on her mobile to upstairs kitchen and order is delivered by runner. An efficient take-away service. Almost all Thais wearing masks of doubtful efficiency but only around half the Caucasians that I saw. Three also had no shirts being naked to the waist so I figured they had donated the garments to needy Thais to convert into facemasks. Its well known that germs cannot survive on the bodies of unwashed foreigners. 3 1
JimHuaHin
Banks at both shopping centres closed, as well as Immigration at BluPort!!! The latter will make congestion worse at the Thap Thai Immigration Office!!! Saw lots of people waiting outside some banks in downtown Hua Hin, in the hot sun.

Popular Post Krataiboy
If they are serious, they should close all the mosques, churches and temples. The Government have told everyone to stay indoors - this doesn't mean you can make silly "recon trips" no matter how you are covered up - and it was silly - a announcement was made that the bars are closed and you make a trip to see if it is true and what do you find? Popular Post RobbyXNorway
Will be interesting to see how Hua Hin (and Thailand in general) looks after this craze passes. People are being sacked and sent packing all over. I drove my mother to Bangkok on Wednesday and there was a lot of traffic with what appeared to be households. Pickups with belongings and a scooter in the middle. Sedans packed to the rear window. Lots and lots of people loosing their job. Even got a text from my latest ex-girlfriend telling me she was now fired from her work at a 5 star resort here in Hua Hin due to lack of customers. Told me all the foreign workers (Indonesian and Malaysian she worked with) were already fired and had to return to their home country on their own dime. She was even cut short on her pay with 6000 baht from the regular 8900 baht, and no service charge or tips. She was crying her eyes out. Being the nice guy I am, I gave her 10.000 on the condition she hop on her scooter the day after and start looking for a new job. But I dont really think there is any new job to be found now. As NCC said, the world seemed to hit a brick wall now. I feel blessed sitting here with my Norwegian pension, even if it took a 20% hit over 2 days 2 weeks ago. Our currency is creeping back up. Got my ass covered with a 16 million pr year health insurance and feel pretty safe where I'm sitting right now. Just have to ride it out. Keep safe guys. I think crime will skyrocket along with soaring unemployment here. 3

NCC1701A
what state of emergency? having just done a 13 kilometer round trip from by house to Big C in Hua Hin and back I was shocked to see how normal everything was. as I left my hood the traffic which has been greatly reduced slowly increased as I headed to the more "no nonsense" part of town. the big differences in town is greatly reduced traffic, bars closed, massage closed, restaurants switched to take out, malls closed. But that was it, very business was open all the way across town. Maybe salon were closed. But not laundry. Building supply stores were selling concrete bricks and groups of Thai men were loading them on a pickup truck. I saw farang buying blue PVC pipe. Scooter sales and repair, cellphone shops, everything was open and people were everywhere. At least the Thais are wearing masks now in much larger numbers, I would say 80%. Still farangs in Big C no mask. All older white males seem to be this demographic. I never saw one policeman anywhere on my route.
