You really think giving people what is obviously false hope is doing the right thing? The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf mean anything to you? Although in this case instead of a predator it's a pet unicorn for everyone.

Condemning Trump's foolish expressions of optimisim does not make one "doom merchant" Once again here is my reply to someone who feared there would be 2 million deaths from the virus:

"That seems way too high. Not even Italy's count supports that prediction. Nobody really knows for even reasonably sure. Here's a good article from five thirty eight about the uncertainty:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/experts-say-the-coronavirus-outlook-has-worsened-but-the-trajectory-is-still-unclear/"

2 million+ is the worst case estimate from the Imperial College study.  The fact is that no one's models are worth much since there are too many unknowns.  But people still anchor around the first numbers they hear even though there is no information in them.  In such cases it is better to guess either very high or very low since those ranges are routinely discarded by those who are anchored to mid-range guesses.

I just heard the opinion of a Harvard epidemiologist who didn't venture a number, but did say the US would have the highest mortality rate of all countries, which is what I think, too.

I think that particular prediction 500.000 for the UK. I guess if you want to simply extrapolate to the US based on population it would be over 2,000,000. But since the US isn't doing nothing it seems very very unlikely that such a dire outcome would come to pass..

The US is indeed doing nothing.  Testing is being done at a high rate in New York City, but not throughout the country.  People who test positive are not being compelled to quarantine or checked for compliance. Contact tracing is not being done at scale with testing and compulsory isolation of positives.  The hospitals are working hard to try to keep sick people alive, but that won't contain the virus.  The best practices for containing corona have been demonstrated in China, Taiwan, Singapore, S. Korea, and Hong Kong.  Every country whose infection count surpasses that of China's, which at the moment includes the US and Italy, has demonstrably failed to implement known best practices.

The Imperial College study reviewed and made predictions for both the US and the UK:

No, just the facts. It certainly. It certainly is false hope from the impeached president.

What else would you call it when about a month ago he said there were only about 5 cases and that will soon be halved and may get to zero soon. We have it all under control.

False hope indeed.

OBdala's narrative.... that Trumps admin sent

supplies to china while US citizens were in need...is patently false.

A scurrilous accusation at best that even CNN hasn't dared to air

as it would be torn to pieces. So its there hiding as an opinion piece

on their website. Pure junk.

Actually, you can find that same information from another scumbag: Mike Pompeo.  It comes directly from him via the State Department website.

The United States Announces Assistance To Combat the Novel Coronavirus

This week the State Department has facilitated the transportation of nearly 17.8 tons of donated medical supplies to the Chinese people, including masks, gowns, gauze, respirators, and other vital materials.  These donations are a testament to the generosity of the American people.

Are you asking this question to the guy who, less than one month ago, was making a barrage of posts downplaying the pandemic, claiming that so-called experts where not experts, that there was a conspiracy by the Dems to create panic and damage Trump's reputation with the help of the biased MSM, etc...?

Really? What conspiracy was he peddling? How was he lying? Didn't the State Dept. facilitate the shipment of that life saving equipment to China? Was it the case that there was enough of it in the USA? You can call Obedeilla all the names you like and praise Pompeo to the skies, but you are still evading the issue. Nothing in what you wrote bears any resemblance to straight talk.

The antidote to some of the shoveling-sand-into-the-wind conversations here is the "ignore user" button.

CBS has shamed themselves again by passing off footage of a critical ward

in Italy as a hospital in America. When exposed they claim its an editing mistake.....yeah right.

Shame on them.

Elsewhere the coup supporter Rachel Maddow is also looking like a fool when she

wrote off as nonsense trumps claim that the USS Mercy would be in NY harbour

in a week...it arrived just as Trump said it would.

Promises made promises kept.

The ship arrived ten days later.

I guess that’s a decimal week.

Or Maddow was correct.

don't be ridonculous. ????

"The Navy hospital ships the president made such a big deal of, the Comfort and the Mercy, there's no sign that they'll be anywhere on site helping out anywhere in the country for weeks yet," Maddow said dismissively on her show. "He said one of those ships would be operational in New York Harbor by next week. That's nonsense."

Also I forgot: some people are so feeble minded they can think without a link:

I guess Rachel Maddow relied on the Pentagon's estimate of how long it would take for the ship to arrive:

"The Pentagon said Wednesday that a Navy hospital ship intended to help New York hospitals dealing with a rapidly expanding load of coronavirus cases will not be ready for weeks."

"“The Comfort is currently in for maintenance in Norfolk, so they are going to expedite the maintenance if they can and prepare it,” explained Jonathan Hoffman, assistant defense secretary for public affairs. “That’s not a days issue, that is a weeks issue. So it’s gonna be a little while,” he added."   https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/18/coronavirus-response-navy-hospital-ship-wont-be-ready-to-help-ny-for-weeks.html

Are you saying that news organizations should not trust the military on timelines to deploy military ships?

Too optimistic.  The US is not going to impose national restrictions as China and some other successful countries have done.  The result will be that the virus with ricochet around the country, dying out in one place as it blooms in another.  All a result of the incompetence of the national government.

What were you saying about China? The people of Wuhan don't even believe their numbers, why do you?
