If you have 24 hours available, why not stay open and spread the shoppers over 24 hours, less hours open means more people when it is open. Can you imagine the rush and crowds at 9:30, just before it closes.

in theory.....but lately, there are very very few people who go to 7 eleven between 10pm  and 5am..  there wont be sudden influx of people at 9.30 pm..

i can clearly see 3-7elevens and one family mart from my condo---its very deserted..even the restaurants are closing earlier

There would be no need to curtail the hours of convenience stores if the franchise holders were made responsible for ensuring that the local alcoholics (both Thai and foreign) did not use their steps and frontages as their bars. The same applies to lottery ticket vendors and prostitutes who congregate at these places.

Oh Please, clutching at straws a bit... 15 hours trading is plenty under the existing climate

Crowding will not be an issue.. Just gonna have to get your beer earlier.

Soon there is every chance of a curfew during these hours anyway which certainly would not hurt

as people do stupid things with a belly full or a bottle of Lao Khao inside

 at these later times.

Only last night saw 7 Thais (obviousty under the weather) hugging, kissing staggering along the street drinking from the bottle (sharing, I don't know)

Close 7/11 at certain times??..??..??..

That's incredibly stupid to limit opening hours for shops where u can buy groceries (snacks etc.).

Because that means that people will be forced to shop at the same times.

And that means that the virus could spread because people are shopping at the same time.

If anything, they should make some kind of opening hours for people over 70 years of age, so they don't come into contact with the rest of the population.

But maybe it won't work here in Asia, since people stay together many generations, and the elderly don't go shopping anyway - they stay home and watch their grand kids.

When was the last time you saw a crowded 7/11 at 3 o'clock in they morning?

Some people like whinge.

I agree.  The shopping hours should be extended, where possible, to not condense the shopping public into a shorter time slot.

The extended family model certainly doesn't help things.

Even if grandmother and grandfather stay home, the kids and grand kids can bring it home to them.

How can you extend shopping hours when 7/11 is open 24 hours a day?

You do realise they are talking about convenience stores don't you?

Not Big or Makro.

Yeah why not open it for only 1 hour a day, and have people packed like sardines during that hour to get essentials to survive.

A token knee jerk reaction, just to be able to say we are dealing with it.

If you shop at a convenience store for essentials to survive you are pretty silly. Go to Big C or Makro for your essential goods. Convenience stores are for stuff like when you need a bottle of milk or similar. You won't die overnight if the shop is shut.

People are making too much out of this.

I think the poster who mentioned robbery is pretty close to the mark.

Ahhhh, because they have just curtailed their opening hours.

24 - 7 = 17.

You can use a calculator is you need to.
