rooster59
Smog at unhealthy levels as forest fires rage in Phayao By The Nation Forest fires have raised the level of particulate matter less than 2.5 (PM2.5) microns in Phayao province to unhealthy levels. On Friday night (March 27), forest fires broke out in various areas, such as Ban Phrathat Khing Kaeng in Jun district and Dong Suwan subdistrict in Dok Kham Tai district. Forest fires tend to spread in high valley regions about one to two kilometres away from the road and can be seen clearly at night. Monks, novices, and villagers in Ban Phrathat Khing Kaeng, Jun district took forest fire extinguishers to fight the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby forests, houses, and gardens. On Saturday morning, various areas in Phayao province were blanketed by haze. PM2.5 level measured 102 micrograms per cubic metre, PM10 was 126 micrograms per cubic metre, and the Air Quality Index value was 212 micrograms, which is considered a very unhealthy level. People have been urged to take care of their health by wearing mask, while people at risk must avoid outdoor activities in areas with high air pollution and wear N95 masks. Popular Post Antonymous
All over the north and north-east of Thailand, every day. Just pick any town/city for each day's air pollution news. A real disaster that is not being adequately addressed by this government. Dealing with the WuFlu (this year) is not an excuse for this annual event.

It could be years before they are forced to stop their slash a burn economic model. Of course we all know who controls the agro businesses in Thailand. ???? Presently rated the most polluted city on the planet and not a peep from the pollution control department...????

I have developed lung issues, and now tonsillitis issues at the age of 40 after living in Khon Kaen, Sarakham, and Bangkok over the last 5 years. What this is doing to the populations who live in this region has got to be bad.
Markus Rider
Did somebody also hear that Chinese companies are a big buyer or thai mushrooms ? Then the local people are forced to put even more fires to sell more ? So basically the Thais are sacrificing the whole north of their country to a few people who earn a lot of money ! 1
