Surachai Yasothorn, abbot of Nalikwanaram Temple – better known as Wat Takhiantia – oversaw the distribution of meal boxes and bottled water March 26. The offering came as the Sangha urged temples to aid their local communities during the economic crisis stemming from the Covid-19 outbreak. Meals, including a bottle of water, are limited to one per person per visit and everyone must wear a face mask. The temple is selling masks to those without. Meanwhile, the community at Wat Boonsamphan on Soi Khao Talo also distributed free food to those affected by all the shutdowns during the COVID-19 scare. I've done shopping for a few older guys I know as they cant visit their usual places for breakfast and dinner. It is all part of the wonderfulness of the culture... people give alms to the monks as an act of 'doing a good deed' to start the day, almost as service provided by the monks who offer a blessing in return... when you begin your day w/a good deed - you feel good. Then the monks are left with way too much food and will share it willingly with anyone in need. There is a security in knowing that if your life turns sour, you will not go hungry.
