Sundown
FYI Phuket has been the favourite destination for Chinese fleeing the country in January . A lot of people from Wuhan also in Phuket hopping from rent to rent waiting the end of the lockdown while enjoying the beach (had them as clients). Now after 2 months they find a few infected people??? Ridiculous. It's all <deleted>. By this time the whole population of Phuket should be infected. It's devastating that many people's lives and businesses are being ruined for literally nothing. 2

Badrabbit
One good thing is there are no lunatic mini bus drivers, coach drivers and cement truck drivers on the roads, apart from the Virus Phuket is a very nice place now, its brought the relocation to another part of Thailand back in my thoughts once the Virus has fuffed off!
christophe75
Nobody to protest ? Is the "governor" of Phuket in charge on the health policy of Thailand ? How many cases in Phuket ? How many deads from the virus in Phuket ? What is the logic behind such a decision ? The guy is a zealot. He started to impose closing to 7/11 shops from 10 PM to 3 AM. Then he closed the beaches (full time). And now, full lockdown ! !! He is clearly in the "competition" of "virtue signaling". Close the beaches but let the large numbers of construction workers stand with full contact with each other. This practice should be stopped immediately but, of course, the Burmese can't get home so would have to remain in Phuket with no income.

This is what happened with me in Goa, India. The police and the Australian consulate had to help me to find a place and get a taxi to it. I got rejected by 30+ hotels and numerous AirBnb hosts. Agoda would show a place is avaliable and charge my credit card, but when I turn up there they wouldn't even open the door to talk to me - just pointing to a notice "Closed". Still have a few pending refunds. The few remaining taxis refused to take foreigners, and they took me only after police intervention.
Agusts
Who came up with this rubbish that Phuket is the epicenter of covid19...!? If anything Bangkok has more cases and far bigger population and harder to control, it's just a small island here .... If they claim night life scene is the issue then Pattaya has 10 times more, have you seen report of detailed testing there and results like in Phuket...!? This covid19 is not transmitted on the beach, not much anyway, it likes crowded places, public transport, mrt, bts, packed immigration offices, or bus stations, large crowd sitting together, ehem, like boxing stadium...!!! ???? The authorities of Phuket just want to compete with federal government and show off, if they are serious tell us about number of extra ventilators they acquired or have extra medical equipment in preparation for the surge of pandemic, extra doctors and nurses... ! Zero info on that, just some extra beds, what good that does... People are running out of money, in Phuket without tourist they will have no income, can't wait for weeks for that broken down website to work for main government help...., it's going to be ugly, and watch for the crime rate to go up, they have to act now and help, specially food..... ????☹

More to the point, the workers, whether they be from bars or building sites will be in a sad state with regards to being able to purchase food or anything else for that matter. Hard times for the local working population and the poor. So sad.

There are not enough resources to allow for the testing. The tests are rationed for the general public. It isn't intended to under report, rather there are not enough resources to do that ( low number of test kits available, PPE, gloves and masks used in testing are being kept for patient care.) This is common practice in most countries because of the limited resources. All emphasis is on saving lives. In plain language it is possible (and likely) that there are hundreds of deceased due to the infection, but because no one tested for it, the deaths are attributed to other causes like pneumonia, old age, pre-existing disease etc. It's far more likely that the coronavirus carriers and infected are way higher than determined by limited testing and the mortality rate is way lower than calculated, which is already very low. I would say that most people who have died or are dying (in the last month) from respiratory illnesses have been or are being tested. Governments all over the the world need to justify the draconian measures being taken, so low mortality rates are not good for the general narrative. I did a detailed analysis of the death rate in the Philippines yesterday on another thread - In 2 months, since the first person was confirmed with the virus only 68 had perished (to March 29), and it is has been reported (by their own media) that ALL people who died had serious underlying medical conditions. In a country of over 109 million people, where the men have an average life expectancy of 66.5 years (women 73), with an extremely poor health care system, where 23.5 million live below the poverty line and 1790 people die every day due to all causes, I'm told that 68 already sick people have died in 60 days. There is no exponential growth. Never was. The measures they are taking over there (Philippines) are so extreme that it's like party time in Thailand by comparison. Unfortunately the extreme public fear is making it easy to lockdown the country to levels not seen in many other countries with 100x their mortality rate. Australia is a particularly good example. With over 4000 reported cases, only 16 had perished, and all but a 68 year old were over 70 years of age. 4 were over 90, 40% over 80.... and then I heard an update today that another had perished - an 85 year old, bringing the current total to 17. As far as I'm concerned, the reasons for a full country-wide lockdown are becoming more shaky every time a very old person has been reported to die. The very first in Australia was 95 years old. That's not very convincing. It's more like a bad joke.
