Pattaya: "Zero" tourists - last remaining Russians have cancelled and tourism industry faces 80% closure for up to a year

I think he is correct. I would go even father and say that tourist will not be back for 18 months. We all know the ignorance of most countries; Thailand will always be viewed as Asia and the Epicenter of the virus and people planning their Holidays will opt to choose other destinations. Pattaya and several other tourist destinations in Thailand will be devastated; Thailand as a whole will have to re-think its Tourist Economy.

In addition the measures taken by Western countries to protect the workers who have lost their jobs etc means a recession and higher taxation is on the cards when covid-19 runs down. Many businesses in the west will have gone bust by then and many airlines aren't sure if they will survive either so Thailand/Asia in general is looking at low tourist numbers for some years to come.

My guess is that Thailand will legalize casinos for foreign nationals later this year, to attract back the Chinese market as quickly as possible. Pattaya will relaunch on that optimistic new note in November 2021 with its own brand new Wynn Hotel & Casino, with other giants to follow if it actually works.

Look for CP Casino to be located next door to Central Casino next to ThaiBev Casino. There is FAR too much money to be skimmed to allow foreign firms into the casino business.

Mmmmmm, now who might that be ?? Chinese people whose economy haven't been hit so hard by all this probably....

Pattaya could become another Sihanoukville - many more Chinese hotels, bars, restaurants and possibly casinos to bring in the cash. Watch out you ex-pat pundits, your favorite bar stool may have gone forever!!

Will the rest of the world be doing these infrastructure projects ?

That's what they did during the Great Depression August 1929 – March 1933, look it up.

They will certainly be taking advantage of their 'first survivor' advantage, and not just in Pattaya.

He said that 80% of the tourism industry in Pattaya faces either temporary or permanent closure.

Sex industry faces closure.. I wonder what the new Pattaya beach resort looks like.

Maybe it's time for them to focus on what real tourists want and not the old sex brigade of beer & fun.
Time to re-model Pattaya for when this is all over or just bring back the old rubbish.

And they will pick it all up, cheap.

The Chinese government can stop their citizens traveling, so they will let Thailand bleed out slowly, and then come in and buy whole hotels, guest houses, bars, night clubs etc.

Pattaya nightlife will look quite different when this is over, and the Chinese have finished their shopping spree.
