First reported case of this virus outside China was ..................Thailand back in January, a Chinese National from Wuhan

Absolutely .....and how long before Thailand took it seriously and how long did they continue to make the Chinese very welcome.

Yet some of the lowest reported initial figures, simply amazing Thailand!

They have a huge backlog of tests that have not been done. I believe they test a max of 700+ cases a day. So they are not testing that much yet.

So 100 new positives from 700 tests. Even allowing for the fact that only those showing symptoms are being tested , by simple projection the infection rate must be in the many thousands already.

That is not conjecture , just basic maths.

The USA is presently catching quite a lot of flack for under testing; the major implication of this is that the infection and death rates in the USA both being underestimated.

Certainly the latest briefings strongly suggest an acceptance of between 100,000 and 200,000 deaths in the course the next 3 to 4 weeks. Privately this is being revised upwards to somewhere north of 250,000.

What America gets this month, Thailand will get next month, and it's worth noting that in Thailand testing and diagnosis have continuously been alleged to have been understated for political purposes.

With this in mind, it does seem likely that over the course of the next two months, the infection and death rate in Thailand is going to soar, and there doesn't appear to be anything in the world that the Thai government can do to stop it from happening.

Certainly, the number of also-rans who are being wheeled out to comment on social distancing and related matters  strongly suggest that something is up.

It might well be fingers crossed time quite soon. Something isn't right about the way all this has been handled,

Approx 120 new cases every day. You wonder if this reported linear increase is because the number of tests that can be carried out is limited to a very low number. You would think there should be some exponential increase by now.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I read recently that they are only testing around 500 to 600 people each day. If that is so then those testing positive are around 20% of the ones tested, is this the reason why the numbers show an increase each day around the 120 testing positive.

I watched sky news this morning showing the new high speed test taking place in Bangkok, the reporter followed a thai man through the 15 min test process. He was the 8th person to be tested today and the results showed he was positive and the 5th positive result out of 8 tests this morning !

I'm sure th8s is an antibody test. It detects if you have antibodies in your blood which is an indication of the presence of a viral infection. If positive, you are sent for further testing to identify the virus. I sell these wholesale  made in China.

Whilst I await the avalanche of doubters to comment,  I have met up with a fellow inmate at the Condo whose Cousin is one of the World's leading Virologists who was flown in by Singapore to help them at the start of this crisis. I assume therefore he knows more about what he is talking about than me and 99.999% of us on this Forum. To cut a long story short he said that 3 countries were well placed to deal with CV-19 - Singapore, Taiwan and believe it or not Thailand. Whether he is right or wrong, it has given me a little more confidence in what is happening here. BTW I had an Antibody Test this morning and it was negative - booooo!

He isn't so clever after all, as he hasn't hasn't foreseen the obvious success of the Republic of Korea..

And, can one get some sort of an epidemiology certification for being the cousin of a leading virologist?

Probably around 60 thousand deaths on the roads including those that didn't die at the roadside so far this year.

Yet people are in a panic and closing everything because of a strong flu virus that might kill a few thousand at worst.

Look at the UK,  On average around 17 thousand people die in England alone from the flu over the last 5 years. The figure for Clovid looks like much less,  But the whole country and others like it come to a standstill,  costing peoples jobs,  causing depression People becoming overweight through being stuck indoors all day.  etc etc.

Total Madness ( the word sheep springs to mind )

I think the point is that the mortality rate is petty low but the infection rate is high. If you can keep the number of infections down then the number of deaths will be low. That's why you need the restrictions. If the infections get out of hand even a low mortality rate will give a lot of deaths.

so possibly all those under PUI could be positive if they tested them.....how is under investigation even cleared if not tested and then shown as tested but negative and not infected with COVID-19.  i am totally confused by the failure to adequately explain the numbers.

Can you tell a little bit about the procedure, was it a blood test from tip of the finger or a swab from the nose?

It was a blood test from the tip of my finger. I had to put some in a little plastic test kit and then the nurse added a liquid. Five minutes later there was one line (if positive there are two I believe). Cheers

Last report has a very large drop in pending results. But there was no corresponding hike in confirmations. I take that as a sign they have further tightened the criteria who gets tested and some dropped out of the queue.

Which is completely the opposite of what needs to happen. The culprit is the usual combination of the deadly idiotic cultural defect, face, and the political need to keep the hoi polloi sedated. The cost for this idiocy will be lives.

EDIT: What the... am I going blind or what, did they remove the pending results from the Thai reports??? https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/situation.php .

F.ex. comparing the English version from 29.3 https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/eng/file/situation/situation-no86-290363.pdf, pending 6,961, and the Thai version: https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/file/situation/situation-no86-290363_4.pdf, pending nowhere to be seen. What just happened?

Capture.JPG.e4d99007ad1910a05206746a23feaf39.JPG

Seriously? They are omitting the number in the Thai results? Or is the virus eating my brain? I remember seeing those numbers in the Thai reports before, but not now. Does anybody have an older report stored locally which has the number and could compare to what is online now?

EDIT: Holy mother of all coverups!!

Here's Internet archive's version of 21st March: https://web.archive.org/web/20200321193229/https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/file/situation/situation-no78-210363.pdf , stored on that day

Here's what online right now: https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/file/situation/situation-no78-210363_1.pdf

They have altered the reports post-fact. The one stored in Internet Archives has the pending number, the one currently online does not. Busted red handed. Ziiishus they are brazen, they even added a _1 in the filename. I was just waiting for them to drop into that trap, they didn't know internet archives exist.

EDIT: ..... you can't make this up. They didn't even bother to remove the original version from the server. Sometime incompetence plays in your favor.

https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/file/situation/situation-no78-210363.pdf - the original with the pending number

https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/file/situation/situation-no78-210363_1.pdf - the one now online where pending test number has been redacted.

You can't really make this up .. they have two versions in Thai with and without the pending.

https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/file/situation/situation-no89-010463.pdf - with pending ( 2,119, there has been a mysterious drop)

https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/file/situation/situation-no89-010463_1.pdf - with pending removed and this is the one being linked to in the main page

EDIT: and before you ask, no, there's no report with _2. I guess if they made that one it would be the Xinhua version.

Did the numbers for today, April 2nd not get put out?  I don't see any updates on a website I look at that shows numbers from every country, and I don't see any new news headline about it here.

No, not out from MoPH yet: https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/situation.php

Maybe they are still trying to figure out what else they can drop from them besides the pending numbers. Or busy further redacting alrady published reports.

The "open government data" at https://data.go.th/en/dataset/covid-19-daily is even older, 'Last updated date    March 31, 2020' . Very open indeed. Like a teflon clad bowling ball without the holes. Shame on them.

Strange but I don't see any difference between both reports, and both links actually go to the exact same file.

Maybe you can point us to the difference?

As you can see, the non-bold portion of that paragraph that has the pending number (2,119) has been deleted.

EDIT: Beware they might have added a HTTP redirect from the one without _1. Here are the copies:

situation-no89-010463.pdfsituation-no89-010463_1.pdf

The one in the wayback machine (internet archive) is not hosted in Thailand and they won't be able to redact it. Nice try. Just put the pending number back, you've been busted.

Maybe you should try to click the links you posted in #107, because both links go to the exact same pdf file

Very strange, they do have the same link under the actual URL I pasted. A TVF glitch?

In my post above they are correct. One more time just to test:

https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/file/situation/situation-no89-010463.pdf

https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/file/situation/situation-no89-010463_1.pdf

EDIT: seems to have worked this time. No idea why the original post has same link for both. Mods could do a favor and correct, I can't edit anymore.

Think they just don't have the capacity to do more tests so probably don't know how many are infected.
I saw this on Twitter some days ago not sure if its accurate.
Labrest2.jpg.27705038644dab24c21d414b05a63663.jpg

It's from an individual ( Sippakorn Widsankun ) that works on robotics, among others. He didn't give the source of the lab tests per day number, I would guess he used a formula to derive it from daily PUI change/daily change in pending results.

It's also impossible to get an accurate number around the world of deaths from Covid 19 ..some countries are recording illnesses like Cancer etc.. Falling down the stairs.. If you have any kind chest infection,  you'll been diagnosed as death from Covid 19 . Whilst more common sense countries only record the death as Covid 19 if that's actually what you died from.
