Even if no nationwide ban materializes, expect speculative buying to empty the shelves.

If you would find it physically difficult to suddenly stop drinking, get your supplies in now. Then, try to taper off a bit in case it is not possible to get more. You do not want to have to seek help for the DTs now, hospitals are infection central.

Missus said she heard that now bars are closed the locals have been going to 7-11 buying booze and just sitting outside the shop to drink it (like some have done for a while now) but authorities want to be seen to enforce social distancing rules so they are restricting alcohol sales in the shop altogether.  It'd be better to fine the numpties outside rather than p**s everyone else off who just want to buy it to take home and keep body and soul together in these times.

In reply to the puritans on here, most people are not addicted to alcohol, but enjoy a drink in the evening to help them destress and relax. It's been part of my social and home life for the past sixty or so years and I want it to continue. I honestly can't see the point in banning its sale apart from a further attempt to stamp govt authority on the people. I bet you a pound to a penny that the powers that be have large supplies of the finest wines and spirits at their disposal. Again a case of "don't do as we do, just do as we say".

I was refused a purchase at Big C after 6pm last night, but bought two bottles of Sang Som at the local mom and pop shop on the way home.

Just went and purchased a few cases of beer and a bottle of nice scotch. I can confirm Lamphun has a ban as just heard it from a wholesale alcohol sales place. Another forum they said Buriram and Surin have fallen too. You best think CM is going to fall next. I will go out tomorrow and purchase some more again because need some nice wine now.

Seriously though, there are too many people around who accuse people who enjoy a drink of being alcoholics. If it doesn’t hurt you are anyone else, then we should be free to do what we like. 

 

I guess the issue with this alcohol ban is that too many people still want to go out and socialise (with booze), removing the social lubricant from the equation may reduce this, but there are far bigger issues to deal with than alcohol which seems like a very easy and somewhat sanctimonious target. An ill thought out policy really, some tool has just thought lets do this and all his idiot minions have been too scared to question the bosses logic.

 

On the other hand, in the UK off-licences can remain open as they are considered as ‘essential’ as supermarkets !!

Totally agree dam these puritans, I don’t smoke, I don’t do drugs, I don’t gamble and I don’t have a gik.

I think you are way out with that prediction there are some pretty big alcohol producers here who have a lot of wealth and power.

Why do you think there are such restrictions on who an produce alcohol and such huge taxes on imported alcohol especially wine
