I can confirm Lamphun has a ban as just heard it from a wholesale alcohol sales place. Another forum they said Buriram and Surin have fallen too. You best think CM is going to fall next. I will go out tomorrow and purchase some more again because need some nice wine now. I live in Buriram and haven't heard of this. Not being a big drinker, a ban may well have been implemented here without my knowing it, but I've not seen it here on TV nor on a Buriam-specific forum I'm on. Just a quick addendum, it appeared on my last trip to Makro a couple of days ago that beer, wine, and spirits were still available. As I said, I'm not a big drinker but every once in a while a cold beer, maybe even two, tastes really good when it's 38 (100 F) +. JAG
That jolly senior policeman who is on the handsome retainer as a"consultant" for one of the big brewing companies (you may remember, he closed down a lot of microbreweries in Bangkok because the floors were inadequate to bear the weight of the drinkers!) will be earning his cash now, as will all the other "agents of the influential"! The big brewing concerns are amongst those who call the shots with this government. A ban for a few weeks in Sakon Nakhon or Lamphun might not really hurt their bottom line, but mess around with Bangkok or Chiang Mai... It was a today post that someone stated after a post someone said Surin had fallen. He said he lived just across the line in Buriram. Anyway even if it does happen just be prepared to have your blue moon hot day beer ready. KOME was the classic. KSAN sucked.

You don’t think people drinking and socialising increases the risk of spreading the 2019-nCov virus? Alcohol itself doesn’t play a part, its the less risk adverse attitudes of those when the drunk or who want to drink that increase the risk of the spreading virus. Removing wide availability of the most popular social lubricant removes the ‘situation’. If you can’t understand that its you who needs serious help immediately - unfortunately the educational facilities are all closed. 4

Mny thks for your reply Personally I drink alcohol ( beer) at my place of residence during the ban enforced til April 13 abiding correctly and from my experience all Social selling venues Etc Etc are acting accordingly but the whole salers or mum and dad stores are still selling alcohol across the board and why not ?

You need serious help immediately !!! Anything that brings people out of their houses an into public contact plays a part in the spread of the disease. That's why we are getting ready for a 24-hour curfew... to keep people inside unless absolutely necessary for food or medicine. Beer is not medicine. Banning the sale of alcohol may also reduce the number of numbnuts who are gathering together, sitting outside closed bars, drinking their beer bought at the 7-Eleven. These gatherings are certainly playing a part in the spread of the disease, and stopping the sale of alcohol will at least slow down the gatherings. It's true that the Mom&Pop shops will continue to sell. And it's true that some alcoholics will search out other retail vendors to feed their habit. But these people are just being selfish, and have total disregard for the other members of their communities, and endanger all those around them by their irresponsible behavior. Free individual choice is one thing. But this Covid 19 outbreak is bigger than the individual. It requires a community effort to keep everyone healthy.

Group gatherings and Social distancing Etc Etc are paying small divendends so far against the Covid 19 in many countrys and appear the better weapon then a complete ban on any retail sale of alcohol here in Thailand. Please explain why i am wrong and selfish plus a danger and disregard to my community buying a slab of beer at my retail outlet and drinking it at my residence whilst the present law is in place til April 13 !!!!!!
Popular Post Brigand
It wouldn't surprise me if the Thai killjoy squad gets its way on this and Pinocchio is a signed up member. Banning alcohol sales (prohibition) doesn't work and will just encourage bootlegging/lawlessness. However, with the numpties in charge here, you never know and I'd suggest going to stock up over the weekend as it may well be coming. I grabbed a couple cases of beer, a bunch of vodka and will go get a load of boxes of 800 baht 3 liter Chilean Merlot tomorrow. Should be good for a bit.

The idea is to reduce social contact. If you go to your retail outlet, you are interacting, at the very least, with another person. You are handling money that has been handled by many people in the past few days when you take your change. The shop may be crowded with other people who aren't so concerned about infecting others, and willing to go to the store for non-essential items such as beer. You might be infecting them. They might be infecting you. There is no way to be sure... other than close the shop or stop it from selling alcohol. The only socially responsible behavior at this time, is to consider the community safety over our own desires, and stay home as much as possible. A 24-hour curfew would be great. People can still go to work. People can still go out to buy food, medicine, or other necessary goods. Just no going out for non-essential reasons. Hey, I don't like staying in the house every day any more than you do. But if it helps flatten the curve of contagion, and helps make the work of the healthcare professionals more effective, I'm willing to put the Community ahead of my own wants. Are you? As for you you sitting in your residence drinking... Nobody gives a damn what you do in your own home. Just don't risk the rest of the Community by going out. 1 2

This isn't China, where they welded apartment house doors shut. People will still be able to go to work if their businesses are still operating. People will still be able to go food shopping where ever they want. Or go to the pharmacy or any other essential needs. It's the 'unnecessary trips' that they will be trying to control. And with good reason.
