Wearing a mask I think is a good idea but I feel it can often give people a false sense of security. A lot of effort put on mask wearing but too little on social distancing. Many people I see seem to think they can only catch the disease outside their social circle. Any guard seems to come down when they are with their friends.

After studying the matter, I am wearing a surgical mask in stores. In a tuk tuk, its just my Burmese face shield hat of a bandanna.

You should read the article you linked again as the use of face masks in the US is still under consideration only... and not all experts agree that they should be used.

Just wear yours, wash your hands with soap and water, use the sanitizing gel when you can't wash and do the social distancing thingmie. You know it makes sense. Getting all het up by other people's woeful ignorance and intransigence won't make you any safer.

The other habit to avoid pulling them down below the chin when it gets uncomfortable.

 

It's not too hard really. I mean millions of non-inflected Asians can't be wrong, eh?

I disagree, Using them correctly is difficult and takes a terrific amount of concentration. You're a very bright fellow, so you manage the job quite well... Most Thai people recycle the same mask for days or weeks. Obviously they don't want to throw them away every 8 hours or every day. All they care about is that you're wearing one, not how it is used.

 

Then there is a consideration of what mask to use. Apparently, according to Chinese officials, only the surgical mask (of the cheaply available masks) is useful. Unfortunately they are hard to come by and only the paper masks and cheap cotton masks are readily available.

 

Due to Thai public sentiment, I'll keep wearing these just to keep them happy. I'm still trying to locate a surgical mask.

Yes, it is very logical, if you're a nurse or doctor and are in very close contact with patients a mask  is a precaution. If you're not in close proximity with patients no need for a mask. As the German health minister and high calibre German doctors are saying.

Of course it's no use because a lot of Asian people (not all) have an irrational belief that somehow a mask would protect them. This is like superstition and akin to buying an amulet. My wife also made me a face shield the other day before we went to Makro.

 

She got a baseball cap and stapled a plastic shield to it, the fit was perfect, under it I put on my N95 M3 mask, then I put on my plastic disposable gloves to push the trolley along, then I had to take them off to pay with the money, put them back on after sanitizing my hands, big mess, then get to the car 40 degree heat, unpack everything and put into our shopping bags, then take off gloves, get water bottle from car, and wash hands with soap for 20 seconds, dry then apply sanitizer just to make sure, then remove mask and hat with shield, sweat like a crazy.

 

Get home, take bags inside, get alcohol and wipe down everything that we purchased, then the bag handles, car door handles, steering wheel, gear changer, then go inside and wipe down all locks and handles that we touched, then wash hands again and have lunch at 3pm in 40 degree heat with power blackout.

 

Just another Corona day, makes me not want to go shopping every 10 days, what a hassle, but at least people noticed this superstar wannabe ✌️

Masks are part of fashion in Asia and I see 99.98 % who wear mask are Asians. Otherwise no one wore mask where ever I went. Asians are used to conformist culture. One wears red, everyone wears red in a week.
