webfact
Phuket cuts opening hours of convenience stores, stops bike rental businesses By THE NATION (Representational image) Phuket has shut down motorcycle rental businesses in the province, and restricted the opening hours of 24-hour convenience stores. The order was issued by the Phuket Communicable Disease Committee on Wednesday (April 1). Convenience stores will have to down their shutters from 8pm to 3am the next day. The order takes effect on Thursday (April 2) and applies until April 30. Violators face a maximum of one year's imprisonment or a fine of Bt100,000, or both, under Section 52 of the Communicable Disease Act BE 2558. The latest orders complement the order of provincial Governor Phakkhaphong Thawiphat on March 28, urging people and tourists, both Thais and foreigners, to refrain from going out of their residences from 8pm to 3am the next day. The order is applicable to all Phuket residents, whether they are staying at a hotel, condominium building, apartment, bungalow, resort, or personal house. The Phuket governor also ordered a halt to land and marine transport to the province from March 29 to April 30, while an air transport shutdown order will be in effect from April 10 to April 30. All transport except vehicles that contain necessary supplies such as gas, medical, food and government vehicles are barred from entering the province. Others must seek permission from the Public Health Ministry. Tropposurfer
What a terrible imposition; Being ordered to stay inside after 8 p.m. OMG ! But wait, could it be that such an order is part of a raft of moves to help those who simply can't discipline themselves for their own and others good to minimise out of home movement, and also not use the darkness hours to congregate.
