webfact
Rescue mission on hold for Thai students in US By The Nation The government wants to help repatriate Thai exchange students caught in the US during the Covid-19 pandemic, though some will have to wait until after April 15 to return. The Foreign Ministry is cooperating with AFS International to bring back Thai youngsters taking part in American Field Service (AFS) programmes. However, the government on Thursday (April 2) asked all Thai nationals abroad to delay travelling home until after April 15, as part of tighter restrictions on arrivals. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha directed the Foreign Ministry to protect the welfare of Thai students overseas. Authorities will discuss how to facilitate repatriation for students, after the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration announced the number of new arrivals to Thailand would be restricted for the next two weeks. Phuket Immigration Office reported that 800-900 travellers arrived by air between March 26 and 30, a high figure for new arrivals. However, the holiday destination saw new arrivals by land and sea dwindle from March 23-31, which is considered a good sign amid the nationwide battle against Covid-19. Tropposurfer
a brief moment of sensible action by authorities. let's hope the students are advised to self isolate, and that they like every person flying back to any home country around the world should be tested for the virus prior to flying and if positive - hospitalised. drbeach
You'd have to pretty crazy to even attempt travel during this month given Phuket airport will be shut after April 9th for the rest of the month and there are hardly any flights operating. Maybe after April 30, provided the state of emergency is lifted by then.
