As millions lose jobs, Fed policymakers say recession is here

The Fed has no moves left but to print money.  V shaped recovery?  Better hope it's not an L shape.  There are worse economic events than a recession.  Navarro and Kudlow continually minimize the possible long term effects of this global pandemic.  Economies like S. Korea who take the least economic damage because of effective governance will suffer the least.

And I'm sure you were equally supportive of a big infrastructure program in the wake of the Great Recession when Obama was in office.

Indeed... but what happened to those "shovel-ready" jobs? Even Obama himself later joked about that not being so true. The only thing that was "shovel-ready" was the steaming pile sold to Americans. But I will promise you this: if Trump's plan is anything like Obama's promises, I will be right there with you protesting.

What does it matter if they weren't shovel ready at the time?  There was no chance that Republicans would have supported any infrastructure plan. Or cooperated in creating an infrastructure plan. As you may recall, the Republicans and the Tea Party were calling for austerity.  In the midst of the greatest financial collapse since the Great Depression. You don't see many or any Democrats calling for austerity in this present crisis. . And this certainly gives the lie to Trump supporters who claim that whatever Trump proposes Democrats will automatically oppose it because it comes from Trump.

Kinda strange that, in the past 20 or 30 years, every time there's an economic crisis, there's a Repub in the Oval Office, and every time there's a genuine recovery, it's after they get tossed out and replaced by a Dem.

The "Trump economic growth"?  Proving to be smoke and mirrors and sleight of hand, with all the benefits accruing to the 1%'ers minus a little that's trickled down.  Sure, the markets were great.  They usually are when companies announce layoffs and even more job offshoring.  Sooner or later, the chickens come home to roost.  And the Repubs jump on any excuse why it's not their fault that crony capitalism and debt driven wealth transfer has come to yet another crisis.

Ford and Westinghouse (Henry and George, not their current management) had it right.  The only way America thrives is if the masses can afford the products they're putting out.  That means jobs in America, with decent salaries and optimism for their future.  Not jobs in China, huge bonuses for a few, and stagnant wages for the masses.
